Comments (44)Hey E.O.! Glad to see you visit "this side" some time! And glad to see your perspective and intent in posting and reading what you do! It's difficult communicating this way, isn't it, at times. I think, if we all take care of our own business, and quit trying to 'straighten' others out so much--less will be misunderstood! I suppose coming to a forum where advice is so freely available, we sometimes forget that unless advice is asked for, perhaps it shouldn't be given, and if we feel 'compelled' to give it, make sure it is done in such a way as to not make ourselves look so "elevated" and others so ignorant! Sometimes--that happens and in some cases, I know, that is not intentional, but in some cases I believe it definitely seems to be the intent! Some people are just quite naturally more sensitive and we should be able to recognize that in folks that post here for awhile and then be careful to be sensitive and RESPECTFUL in our of handling them. Kindness is becoming a lost character quality and it's turning us into barbarians, in so many ways in our culture today!! Don't get me started! Anyway, I think we all need to settle our 'feathers' down and keep on keeping on, and it wouldn't hurt for apologies to be offered where needed, either. I've yet to ever reject an apology, myself, (not that I think I need one BTW), when I sense it to be genuine! Oh, and Phil--I also sent you an email very early today!!! What in the world is happening with that? I've never thought I had a problem sending folks emails? Have you received ANY from the GW site?...See MoreTell us your 'pet peeves'!
Comments (22)How about when you have two items and the person ahead of you at the checkout has a overflowing cart and doesn't have the curtesy of letting you go ahead of them? It's like I can have my two items scanned and paid for before they are even done unloading, but do you think they'll let me go ahead of them? Personally, I often wave people behind me, ahead of me if I'm on the buy for a week trips and they have a few items, I just plain consider that common curtesy. Some days it's not just one person, but several, it sure doesn't kill me to have to wait a few extra seconds and let them go ahead of me instead of them waiting for me to finish a large transaction. I swear shoppers are the absolute rudest people. I remember being on crutches and trying to push a cart and someone actually knocking me down to get in the checkout lane before me. Want to talk about driving, how about the person who does not use turn signals? Kind of a running joke with me, I say, turn signals must have been optional on that model of car. But truth be known, it is not funny. Last week I was leaving a parking lot and the car ahead of me was a good 75% in the left turn lane and didn't have a turn signal on. I sat back and waited, wondering what to do since I was planning on turning right. I finally thought, well she is mostly in the left turn lane, so I moved in beside her in the right turn lane. OMG, big mistake, she laid on the horn something aweful and her passenger started yelling at me and giving me the finger. Of course the biach side of me was up for a fight, I sure didn't need this, wanted to tell her that if she wanted to turn right then get in the right lane and put on a turn signal, but the passive side of me won over, figured I didn't need a case of road rage and I backed off, let her go, but I am still steaming over the matter. Just kind of one of those things that bother me, if I am following you or before you, let me know which way you intend to go, it really isn't that hard to flip on that turn signal. I don't care if you are on a back country road or interstate highway, it's not that hard to flip on that signal. Come on folks, just lift that arm and hit the signal lever, won't give you blisters or crack a nail, take my word for it, it's really quit easy, lol....See MorePet Peeves
Comments (53)snidely, looks like we both had the same thought. You got here first. One other thing in general, don't know as it could be called a pet peeve. Why must ALL the daytime tv shows be the exact same formula? Panel of hostesses. Guest celebrity host. Hollywood gossip. Cooking segment. Make over. Even Rachel Ray did it. A cooking show that isn't. It's a catch 22. We watch because that's all that's on and they keep producing crap because we watch it. There really isn't a reason to have a TV these days. I never watch/ed Survivor but I did like Jeff Probst's daytime show. He got cancelled. The formula shows are still on, I guess. I found a very relaxing thing to do instead of watch. Turn the TV off. Listen to the quiet. Isn't it wonderful! and then I loose track of time because there isn't anything to break into my train of thought....See More'Sealed for your protection'- HA! Comments (33)Joyful, I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and hope you were just kidding with that post about yelling at an employee. *Totally* off base! You've been listening to that stupid mantra "the customer is always right" just a little too long methinks. If you were serious, then let's have us a discussion cuz you just hit on a pet peeve of mine! LOL I'm proud to say I've intervened on more than one occasion when someone has been screaming at an employee who is not responsible for the problem. I've also gone to bat for employees put in that position. And I've also had my share of people taking their hostilities out on me because they can't balance a checkbook, read a sign or a variety of other excuses for the problem. When the employee does something wrong, they should be held accountable but that should be by their employer. Although your purchases contribute to paying their wages, you are not their employer and reprimanding them isn't your privilege. You made an excellent point: Complaining only really helps if you do it in places where it can have some effect. Well said. So well, in fact that one bears restatement: Complaining only really helps if you do it in places where it can have some effect. So go to the manufacturer instead of a guy trying to earn a living. Or better yet, how about people taking some personal responsibility? Go ahead and return it if you want. Good suggestion. That's not a problem. But why in the world would you keep buying it then if it's so bad? I've said (essentially) this in another thread tonight but bears repeating here: If you don't buy it, they won't sell it, get it? If you buy it over and over, you're telling them you like it. Basic rules of retail. Dollars are data and communicate well. And BTW, I'll lay you odds if you ask the cashier nicely to open it for you, most (if not all) of the time I'm sure they will. Most will have a box cutter on them or near them or have the dexterity to pop it open. And for that matter you can stand there and yell too - they'll probably still open it for you! And have a good laugh in the breakroom telling the others about you! :D I don't like a lot of these packages, but I'm pragmatic. There IS a reason for them....See Morestrawchicago z5
