Floor plan help - master bedroom & bathroom doors too close?
Comments (6)Thanks so much for your input everyone! Bevangel, special thanks to you for modifying my picture. It definitely helps to have a visual! I think moving the doors further into the hall will work, and should be very easy for the builder to do. We'd lose a little more exterior hallway space (the bedroom doors were originally at the dotted line), but having the longer hallway within the master bedroom will be more dramatic. I love this website! I'm glad I finally decided to join and stop lurking. ;)...See MoreMaster Bathroom Floorplan
Comments (4)So I forgot to mention some info that could be helpful: on the new plan - the wall behind the tub and shower is an exterior wall there are no windows in the bathroom except for one skylight above the toilet (in the old plan) or tub/shower (in the new plan) and it is a 105 year old victorian so we wont add any windows on that exterior wall & the rest of the walls are interior the new plan is rotated 90 degrees clockwise - so the hallway in the original plan is actually located at the bottom of the jpg of the new plan now (sorry about that..) finally, here is a better upload of the new plan: http://picasaweb.google.com/erinfarris3/MasterBathroom#5301637049943220290 Old plan - 1 square = 0.5 feet new plan - has measuements on it, but 2 squares = 0.5 feet...See MoreReview my bathroom floorplans (master bath, and also guest/powder)
Comments (51)I think a large family room is a good idea. I like that you are doing a larger shower instead of a shower and tub. We recently moved from the snow belt where we lived over 30 years. The newer houses had 3 car garages, but in almost every garage, there were only two cars and sometimes one. People tend to store "stuff" in the garage. (We are guilty too). In our house we built 15 years ago, we did a 2 1/2 car garage with extra space in the rear. I would choose more room in the house and do a oversized two car garage, but make the garage extra wide and deep. Some of the 3 car garages have no storage on the sides or in the back. Therefore the 3rd stall is all storage. I think you would be wise to have a mudroom/ laundry room between the garage and house. It would also be nice to try and change the living room to where the kitchen/dining area is and move the kitchen/dining area to where the LR is now....See MoreMaster Bathroom Layout - Floor Plan Included
Comments (6)Well, now this is my own personal preference, but I do not want to walk past 11‘ of hangers and kaleidoscope of color and texture and shoes (and unless you stage your closet every single day I can’t imagine it looking like the guy‘s closet in 9 1/2 weeks or the Container Store elfa flyer) to get to the bathroom. So, I’d keep the double doors (this is rare for me!) but be sure that if just the right side is open, it’s wide enough to pass through comfortably. And then I’d make two closets on either side of a central hall. I wouldn’t bring them out as far as they can go, give yourself some breathing room, space to come out and twirl around in the hall a bit, under the solatubes. I might even make them reach-ins, so that the whole area can be a dressing room. Because really, if you had walk-ins you’d mainly use the back wall anyway. Maybe make them a little deeper than standard reach-in so that you can use the side walls for hooks and racks for accessories. But you want room in the open to see how you look....See Moretc9876
