Comments (20)Novice- the base color is some deep turquoise that I had left over from another project. ( I don't remember the brand- but it was designed for a kids room, so it could be washed with soap and water.) Then I went over that with some watered down "sweet chocolate" acrylic paint, and wiped some of that off the raised areas, but- that turned out too dark, so I put a bit of water in the nearly empty turquoise paint can, and made a "wash" that I painted over the entire thing. I put clear sealer over the whole thing, since the paint is interior paint. It will be interesting to see how this piece weathers. It still has it's original dark stain under the paint, so even if it gets peely or chippy, it should look kind of cool. Kathy...See Morewhat size & where to buy decent mirrors over vanities
Comments (11)A few suggestions... There's a Restoration Hardware outlet at the Tulalip Outlet mall so you might find a few deals there. ( I remember you mentioned living in Edmonds, so it might be worth the drive up north.) Or, as Babs suggested, having a glass and mirror shop custom make a nice beveled mirror is very reasonable. When we remodeled our master bath we made a frame with some nice trim/molding that we bought from our cabinet maker (to match our cabinets) and had a mirror with an extra large bevel to fit in the frame. For our guest bathroom I found a simple, wide, solid wood, oversized picture frame at Aaron Bros. on sale for $20, and a local glass shop put a beveled mirror in it for me for $40. It looks fabulous! (We used a metal bracket called a hangman which makes it easy and safe to hang large, heavy objects.) In regards to the size, personally I think bigger is better, especially vertically. I've always noticed nicer hotels have wonderfully large mirrors - they really add a feeling of spaciousness to what are usually small rooms....See MoreHow to add a mirror to a frame
Comments (9)Two suggestions, you may be able to find some inexpensive mirrors at the local Good Will or Salvation Army in the sizes you need then you can just transfer them over. If you really want to go cheap though, I'd suggest buying some cool wrapping paper or even fabric that you like and framing it instead. Here's a sample of what I did in our office with a napkin from Pottery Barn Outlet, I used the other napkins from the pack for the valance. I paid 10.00 for the frame and 9.00 for the napkins. Much cheaper than mirror would have cost....See MoreOld mirror frame
Comments (30)That would also be absolutley awesome with a mirror in it hanging over a vanity in an antiquey bathroom. You know...with an old dresser holding a sink. How 'bout padding and tufting the middle, bolting it to the wall and using it for the headboard of a twin bed? Pad the middle and use it for the back to a bench stained to match with padding on the seat. Hang it on the wall as a frame for a collage of antique family photos...printed in sepia. (Oh gee...that would look great in my living room on my reddish walls!) Heck...I'd sneak it out of your garage in the middle of the night if you weren't so far away! LOL ~Sandy~...See Morelfblair768
