What size bar light over vanity?
Comments (6)Jeannie, it depends on both the look you want as well as the light you need. There's no rigid rule for the "right" side light bar, but probably 30" to 36" centered over the 48" vanity would look good. But it may also depend on the fixture you pick: how many lights does it have, how much light do they put out, and what kind of material is the light shade? For example, you could have a 36" fixture with three 40 watt lights and heavily frosted glass that would put out much less light than a smaller 24" fixture with three 65 watt halogen lights and clear or slightly frosted glass. You also need to see if the lights direct much of the light up, down or out. For example, a fixture with its lights pointed up could be fine for providing soft illumination bouncing off the ceiling to light the room, but not provide much task light for your activities at the vanity; a fixture with its lights directed down could provide excellent lighting for the vanity, but leave the overall room feeling a little dark. It's best if you can see fixtures in a couple lighting showrooms, because these factors are often hard to judge looking at pictures in a catalog or web site. Even if a showroom doesn't have the exact fixture you want, if you see others by the same manufacturer it can help you gauge what you feel will work best for you. -- Eric...See MoreIs there a size rule for mirror over vanity?
Comments (16)I have a linen cabinet and vanity being custom made, and need to decide what size of mirror to put there. The linen cabinet is 14" (and tall), vanity is 40" right next to linen cabinet. The rectangular sink (17") is not centered on the vanity, it will be more to the right which means I can't put a mirror in the center of the vanity, it won't look good. So, I can order 40" mirror that covers all open space above vanity or put standard mirror right above sink. But I'm not sure having mirror that is not centered will look that good. Any suggestions? ****** ****** ****** ****** ****** ****** ************************************ ***********************000000000**** ***********************000000000**** ***********************000000000**** ************************************ ************************************...See MoreWhat size mirror and lights for this vanity?
Comments (11)Jugiegal, yes, our vanity size and layout is very similar to yours. I really like your choice of mirrors, I am an arch person and like anything that has an arch element. But, because the two mirrors would have been this size, my kids really wanted a large one. When the girls do their hair, or each other's hair, or their friends' hair (you get the picture, right? :)), they stand in the middle and use the counter for all their hair accessories, hair dryer, flat iron etc. So it is important to have the mirror in the middle as well. The mock-up mirror in the photo serves this purpose now. And for me, it is great because it keeps all the hair-related products out of their bedrooms. Lyban, there is tile between the sinks but the upper row of the glass border is not there....See MoreWhat size mirror and light bar over 36in vanity
Comments (2)If you want to use a medicine cabinet I would probably stay with the 24 inch and use side lights. You'll need to keep in mind that a bar light above the medicine cabinet will need to extend enough to clear the depth of the cabinet, so finding such a light may be difficult. There are cabinets that have built-in lights so you may want to look at those. Check these out. If you choose a cabinet with built-in lights, I'd go with a wider than 24" cabinet. Other option: keep the light fixture you have and put in a framed, or unframed mirror that is a little wider than the lights. Here are some visuals....See Morepps7
