Hope it's not rude to answer for babushka_cat; but I love her kitchen and have saved some of the information she's posted about it so will share it with you. In her 'babushka_cat kitchen preview' post, she wrote "Wall color is Benjamin Moore Putnam Ivory. Counters are Honed Calacatta Cremo Delicato Marble - unusual caramel color. Backsplash is Grazia Melange Butter Blend". I think she's done a wonderful job keeping the essence of her 1940's kitchen intact, with the cabinet door selection, the curves of the cabinet feet and the general style. Thank you! That really is beautiful. It feels so calm and soothing. Saybrook Sage was definitely on my short list. Painter was there this morning and we ended up going with a different combination of sage/greens. After seeing your photo, I hope I don't regret not going with Saybrook. Otherwise, I'm afraid the painter will be back yet again, or worse yet, I'll be breaking out the rollers to do it myself. Thanks for the link too. I can't wait to see what others have done.

Thanks everyone! I think I'm going to paint the whole soffit grey and leave the ceiling white at first, since like Sheesharee I'd prefer some contrast in this room. If it calls too much attention to the soffit and weirdly shaped ceiling, I can paint it grey afterwards. Les, I realized when I posted the pic that the soffit was almost screaming for a recessed light (oddly didn't think of that while actually standing in the room). Unfortunately, I don't think there's room in the soffit.

I hope it's ok to say I like the current color. I do wonder whether the taupe is too similar to your upholstery. If you keep the walls neutral you could introduce color (just about any color or colors) through art or accessories; or keep it neutral but add interest with different textures and a variety of materials. The plant really brings life to the room. I'd introduce some green, but then I'd introduce green just about anywhere!
