Laundry Room Planning Advice - who knew??
Comments (7)I designed the laundry room with the W/D the "wrong" way because I knew that the Electrolux are reversible & that's what I wanted. We went to the Kenmore Appliance store last weekend since Sears is dumping the older versions of the Wave-Touch E'lux & we needed to make sure we told the builder the right depth for the platform we had built. Anyway, we gave the Kenmore Elite a looky-look because Kenmore is highly rated by Consumer Reports. Yup, the E'lux are the only ones that are reversible. Turns out we're OK if we want to switch them because we are using a hard exhaust for the dryer & it makes it easier to interchange the positions. Oh, and I've now realized that I probably messed up by reversing them from a time/motion point of view. The plumbing & electrical contractors pointed out that they were reversed during the walkthrough. I think I need to go with a set that isn't reversible so I don't have egg on my face. I'll just insist that DH won't let me get the E'lux because of the easy open door. LOL!!!!...See MoreNeed paint advice for laundry/furnace room
Comments (5)Thanks Sankaty! However...this IS a pretty common way to deal with "messy-yet-need-to-keep-accessible" rooms! * What is the measurement from your floor to the bottom of the ceiling-joists? * Would losing a few inches hit any door-swing arcs? * Our lower-level (bi-level home) is a full 8' wall, so losing 4-5" was hardly noticeable. * I also installed 2 flourescent light troffer-bays instead of panels. I wanted lotsa light in there! The room is about 10' x 11'. * I also studded-out a wall in front of the sump-pit/water-heater/furnace space, and installed bi-fold doors. Stained-'em to match rest of the trim, & applied 3 coats of ACE's Satin Oil-base Polyurethane. * I'll get a pic here soon... Faron...See Morekitchen/laundry room door advice

Comments (10)can you reach your shut off valve to the water. Can you access the dryer vent for yearly maintenance? I like them stacked. You could but in a bank of floor to ceiling cabinets on the side, with planned access to the vent and water shut off. Have a tall pull out pantry on the side for your ironing board and brooms etc. floor to ceiling cabinets between the pullout and stacked set. Many of the cabinet shelves could be drawers instead of shelves, making it easy to access stuff. The upper areas could be for things you never need often, and reachable by a step ladder kept in the pantry pullout. example of pullout shelves: example of a 1/2 length pantry pullout (I think :) or this, no pullout pantry:...See MoreHU-187528210
