What's your longest or most blooming rose?
Comments (11)Longest lasting individual blooms in my garden are probably Valencia (although she is very slow to get started) and Elina--and maybe Red Intuition--kind of a slow-starter also (all HTs). Or if you mean, the rose that has the most continuous or rapid rebloom so that it almost always has some kind of bloom open on it, then I might pick Austin's Molineux. Or maybe Our Lady of Guadalupe. Possibly Home Run. The bourbon Mystic Beauty might qualify also. And I have several brand new roses that are supposed to be very floriferous, but I guess we will have to wait to see how they actually do, won't we. Comments (83)harmonyp, I can't speak for Mme. Isaac Pereire, one of the large Bourbons, but SdlM should do well for you. It's not the least fazed by dry heat. I should mention though that I have two and the one that has mostly morning shade and then hot afternoon sun can't in any way be compared with the gorgeous one that has sun for most of the day but for a good part of the year has early evening shade. I did have Souv. de Dr. Reynaud, a large Bourbon with very fragrant flowers, but I didn't keep it very long because of its lanky growth habit and more sporadic bloom, and mostly because the blooms fried very quickly. If you can plant Mme. Isaac in a place with afternoon shade that would probably be optimal for you. The SdlM sport, Kronprinzessin Viktoria von Preussen, and another, Mme. Cornelissen, also do very well for me, but again they usually don't get the blazing early evening sun. Ingrid...See MoreWhat is your best and most beloved reblooming old-fashioned rose?
Comments (48)This is a great question, I've enjoyed all the posts. I haven't had a real rose garden since 1995. The bloom I most looked forward to then was not remontant, but the best moment in that garden was when Madame Legras de St. Germain threw out her sweet, prolific blooms up the front of the garage and over the door. I am still in structural mode in my new garden, improving soil and building paths and arbors, etc. It will probably be 3 more summers before I plant new roses. So hard to wait!!! @ gardenerzone4- Molineaux should be fine for you, I saw it growing in the Minnesota Arboretum this summer. I believe they used soil and mulch at the base of the plant for winter protection. DH is trying to convince me to grow it since he is a philosopher who loves the name as well as the color.-- Also, I am curious about your italian roses, what do you do to winter protect them? Comments (220)Kristine - that sounds divine!!! Pictures when you have them!! Needmoremulch - wow - rose damask fragrance? Looks like a keeper. mmmmm :) Totoro - in my old house, I planted DD, and I could smell it from 8 feet away....and I hated, hated the smell. I had to get rid of it. I like the smell of myrrh...but that one was disgusting. I bet if I grew it in a pot (it was in the ground), the fragrance would be more manageable. Carol...See MoreRosylady (PNW zone 8)
