Your most fragrant and best Buck roses
Comments (6)I cant remember about scent, but a couple of Bucks that I really like and dont hear much about are Bright Melody and Dorcas. Strong, healthy, lots of blooms. Blue Skies and Silver Shadows didnt thrive and didnt make it, but all the ones I have planted are exceptionally nice roses - I have just planted a bunch of new ones - I really like the Bucks for their health and many blooms....See MoreWhat is the Most Fragrant Rose?
Comments (40)I have a poor nose. A rose has to have an overwhelming scent to get noticed by me. The list of OGRÂs that are fragrant is nearly endless. Just to mention a few that I have, The Apothecary, Hippolyte and Jacques Cartier. An old rose that is also fragrant but not I think classified as an OGR despite being old is Baltimore Belle. Its flowers indivdually are not that fragrant but enmasse become overpowering. It has literally hundreds of flowers each cluster with 10 or more buds. As IÂm in Zone 5 I no longer grow HTÂs of which many are bred for fragrance so that gang is not on my list. I notice that an alleged legendarly fragrant HT, Crimson Glory is not mentioned. Probably too old. I once tried to grow it but it tanked early....See MoreYour Most Fragrant Rose?
Comments (27)The wafting scents are wonderful: I got a noseful of 'Cornelia' today while I was cleaning around her. Other big wafters are 'Mme. Plantier' and 'Felicia', both beautifully scented. Very fragrant are 'Centifolia' and 'Sharifa Asma', and 'Cl. Etoile de Hollande' is so stronly scented I can't eat with a bloom of it on the table; but there are endless wonderfully scented roses. A few years ago I got a miniscule cutting of a rose growing in the yard of a farm wife on the other side of the valley, a woman fond of flowers. It rooted, I stuck it out in a hot dry area of weedy clay, I forgot about it. My starved little plant is currently blooming, cherry red semidouble blossoms, very fragrant. Its scent is a mixture of old rose with something sharper and fruitier, what I think of as a hybrid scent; some of the Bourbons and HPs have this kind of fragrance, so does 'Noella Nabonnand' if I remember correctly. I'll have to take a closer, more respectful look at my rose. I'm guessing it's a passalong old rose as one sees here and there, saved by its facility in rooting, its color and rebloom and scent, its will to live....See MoreYour most fragrant roses today
Comments (37)A few more: Fragrant Cloud - more orange than the photo shows. I SO love this rose. The fragrance is strong, and a little odd - took some getting used to. But I love it now, and I'm nuts over this rose. Bella'roma: - this rose is hard to photograph, and she's not a fast repeat bloomer. But her fragrance is hands down, one of my favorites in my garden. Every bloom she gives me is a gift. Young Lycidas - Lisa, he does WONDERFULLY in dry heat! Neptune: A newer rose for me, and this bloom round is one of the most fragrant I've had from her. Lovely fragrance! More of Stainless Steel. I am in awe of the bloom form of this rose (and fragrance too!) Chrysler Imperial - one bloom at a time right now, but each blooms smells like heaven. Tiffany - I threatened her, and she gave me a super fragrant bloom Ok, so my Dusty isn't really fragrant (smells like old ranch dog). But she IS next to a bloom of Fragrant Cloud, and is my best garden companion....See Moretotoro z7b Md
