Help me decide where to stop backsplash tile!
Comments (2)I am no design expert so I am sure others will chime in that have more experience than me. Since you said your floor tile is already busy, and you want to go with a busy skinny brick backsplash, on the wall that has the range and hood, I would only put that skinny brick behind the stove and hood and go straight up to the ceiling. I personally would not do the entire wall with that tile. Y'know that saying "too much of a good thing"? That's what I think of when you say you want to tile the entire wall. The tile looses it's uniqueness (is that such a word?) when it's everywhere. Plus, if your floor is busy, and your countertops will be busy with granite, and your wall is super busy, your eye will be drawn to all these different surfaces and textures. It's not a soothing look. All three textures will be competing with each other. The wall with the sink....does it have a window in it? Are the cabinets on that wall? Again, I would not tile the entire wall, only up to underneath the cabinets (assuming there are some there). I personally would have one texture be the focal point, whether it be the countertops, backsplash or floor. I really love the tile around the fireplace so I personally would choose that as the dominant texture and have the other surfaces more soothing, if that makes sense. When you mention painted crown moulding, I am assuming you mean on the walls and not on the cabinets. I think you would be fine with white above the cabinets since the cabinets do not go up to the ceiling. I have also seen crown moulding on top of tile, should you decide to tile the entire wall. As I said I am sure others will chime in. Good luck!...See MoreBacksplash start-stop-start-stop (Pics)
Comments (18)Thank you Beekeeperswife! I love your kitchen so much, I checked it out on the Mission Tile and Stone site too, fabulous! I asked my fabricator to make me lazy susan's out of my sink cutouts. I have one marble and one in granite. They're pretty heavy but they blend right in when they're sitting on the counter. The marble one is going to go on the wood breakfast table because I'm not so sure I want that one to blend in. Aokat, thank you! You're kitchen is going to be spectacular. If I could have chosen any size, layout and style kitchen I wanted, I'd have plucked yours right off the page! I tried to remove the corbels myself this morning because I'm off from work. No luck. Best left to the carpenter I guess. I bet he'll do that last. Thanks Pricklypearcactus! I appreciate the positive feedback. It's scary to spend so much money and then fear I'm creating a frankenstein every time something gets installed :)...See More[Advice needed] Where to stop backsplash in vaulted ceiling kitchen?
Comments (5)if the high point of the ceiling isnt symmetric with the sink... i'd skip highlighting that. have your splash match the bottom of your uppers OR some sensible spot on your hood higher than the bottom of your uppers if its like... 20". dont go higher so you can ignore the vault. if you intend to tile to the ceiling of your hood wall... stay at 18" on your sink wall with or without uppers....See MoreWhere do we stop backsplash?
Comments (7)Thank you Dawn, that is a nice idea! I I don’t want it to be busy (=grout line busy or patterns) And the simple larger tiles will accomplish that! We like that simple look. I’ll look into some larger format tiles based on your suggestion for sure. . My husband has finally abandoned the floor tile on wall idea (yes!!!) but now he wants thin porcelain tile slabs in white to cover the entire wall. I like the large format they come in so I’ll take a look at that as an option too....See Morerfharmon
