I would not mix the tiles with that counter and really if you want to take the bathroom to the next level that shower needs to be redone since IMO that is the most dated part of the bathroom. So I think you need to give us a bit more info these kind of 1/2 and 1/2 bathroom renos are IMO never a good idea , you need to consider all the elements at the same time.

To me this space is builder grade. I would remove whatever you can and start fresh. The pony wall would be my first. Redo the tile work and all hardware. Countertops. Lighting. I would consider some molding and wallpaper here.

The bathroom was remodeled about 8 years ago and it’s not in the budget to remodel. I need to work with what I have. Please help me do that. I can remove some of the tile if there is to much of it. For example On the pony and along the wall.

There are a lot of awkward angles here. Is that a skylight? And a beam over the shower?

If possible, push back the contractor's start date, to give you time to reconsider option now that you've asked for help. If you can put the countertop order on hold, do that too.

Yes. There is a skylight and a beam over the shower. There use to be a tub and a super small shower that I couldn’t extend my arms in. As you are looking at the shower there are two windows. Based on what I have read so far I still don’t know what to do. In the Perfect world I could do a complete remodel but I can’t.

On my screen, I cannot tell what color the shower tiles are. Are they a warmer beige-y? If so, I wouldn't go with a cool-toned counter.

I understand you are on a budget. If that were my bathroom, I'd do what you're doing. Leave the tiled shower (which has some color to it--can't tell if warm or cool), but get a countertop that works with it. I would do neutral. For myself, I'd probably choose white Corian, if that works with the tile colors. Paint the cabinet. Nice touch to raise it up. Instead of those little gray rugs, I'd purchase a rug with color in it (maybe a runner).

I do not see any disadvantage in having a skylight in your bathroom, and it seems like a nice-sized room to me. I am unsure why people are telling you to rip out a nice-looking shower.

Finally, with lighter colors, I'd paint those mirrors something else. They look black on my screen.

I was hoping for anything but to rip it out and start over. It’s def: not builders grade so very confused by that comment. The before was builders grade. I am thinking maybe I should take the tile off the pony wall and then the tile off the walls outside of the shower. Thoughts on that? The vanity will be painted and lifted. I will get two brand new mirrors and two new light fixtures to go over that. Tile color is more of a Greige.

Leave the tile. Make sure your countertop goes with the existing tile and floor. Paint the vanity from a light color in your tile. Leave the quiet moments. I like that, and it is a great color for a bedroom, or bathroom. The bathroom, looks quite nice, and not necessary to tear it all out. The pony wall, provides a bit of privacy, and your bathroom is large enough, that it is not necessary to remove it.

What kind of “feeling” are you going for? Painting the vanity teal or a dark color will be more dramatic. Painting it a lighter color will be more spa like and calming. It’s your bathroom and you should do what you like, especially if we’re only talking paint which is easier to change.
Your countertop looks like it incorporates all your colors and is obviously a much costlier item.
I would agree with cat- ky above. I think picking a lighter color from your countertop would work well, especially given that your bathroom is not that big. You can bring in the other colors with less expensive options that are easy to change like towels, artwork and a rug. I would limit the number of rugs you have as your space is narrow and your eyes stop at every rug. Fewer rugs will make the space seem bigger.
