Help with paint color suggestions for parent's kitchen refresh!
Comments (18)Maybe two-tone? Paint some but not all? I really agree with everyone else that the worst thing in that kitchen is the backsplash. And painting all the cabinets is just SO much work -- by you or by someone you pay a lot of money to do all that work. It just seems like better bang for your buck to lose the backsplash and keep some or all of the cabinets as they are. When you take more pictures, can you please take pictures of all the cabinets? I wonder if it's just that there are too many cabinets overall that are making the stain tone especially overwhelming. Especially in kitchens the age of your parents', people tended to just fill every nook and cranny with identical cabinets. No variation, and no breathing room. Today, we are favoring fewer cabinets -- especially fewer uppers -- and cabinets with mixed finishes, etc. to make our kitchens less like a cabinet showroom and less claustrophobic. I wonder if there is a bank of uppers you can remove and replace with art or a window that would make a bigger difference than just painting everything white. I'm also wondering how much the lighting is contributing. Could swapping out very yellow bulbs for cooler-colored lighting help? I'm just wondering how overwhelming that cabinet stain would be if half of it at eye-level (the uppers) disappeared, the lighting was cooler, and the wall/counter colors actually toned it down a bit....See MoreMy exterior house has the blahs. Comments (25)Well the pavers are out of our budget, so we are looking at refinishing the concrete. The painter actually shown us a Faux wood finish for the garage door, but we were uncertain about the look. Still working on the trellis.. The landscaper comes this week to help with the yard....See MoreSuggestions for brick color? Window trim must be white.
Comments (17)I am leaning for navy on the shutters. I have been riding around my town, (with just me and my kids), and it seems most people have black shutters. I like the one above with the off setting blue gray shutters. You rock by the way!!!...See MoreSeeking suggestions to improve the facade of small home.
Comments (9)Thank you so much to everyone that replied. Your suggestions have been crazy helpful! I think a new garage door with windows painted the same color as the house will help make the garage less prominent. I will remove shutters since they are plastic and the plastic is shattered in some places. It will be interesting to see what it looks like without shutters. If I do buy others, certainly shutters that fit the window and painted another color would be much better. Oddly enough I had not even noticed that the driveway needed power washing. I can do that once construction equipment no longer needed on driveway. As requested I am posting picture of front of house. This picture was from listing of house. Since then the roof and gutters have been replace and the deck removed since totally rotted. Meeting contractor this week to determine if all siding must be replaced. I am also posting picture of patio. The patio is a little more than 10' deep (except by entrance that is maybe just 8' deep at smallest spot. Once I have rocks delivered for placing in front yard (dry Colorado front range), I will start landscaping. If need new siding, then I suppose I need to think about what siding and what colors to paint. Does anyone have any advice about siding or paint colors. The photo above shows that I really messed up with the color of the steps as they do not work well with patio or my preferred tans. I really thought the composite lumber for steps was just white with tan and grey. It is not! Thanks again for all your suggestions! I cannot thank everyone enough as I am in rather deep! So many problems with this place!...See Moremichaelmm123
