Hometown stores are empty. We drove up a year ago. No one was on the street. Industries closed so young folks moved away to find employment. I so remember as a child playing in the feed store and selecting bags that I loved for grandmama to make my dresses. Happy memories of my childhood walking streets.

They live in a rural area and it takes longer to get to them. As of Thursday, news said this area was still out. Storm rolled thru a week ago Wednesday night.

nickel, as you can tell they were in my lane facing me. I couldn't have missed them for anything! Would have had to been playing on my phone, or had my head up someplace it should not have been. I doubt the subsequent cars behind me understood why I didn't take off. At first. Then they probably just shook their head like I did. Typical day in traffic. I guess I should be thankful I'm working from home these days. Sigh

Eld - I think Alisande is right. DS lived in Jersey City a few years ago and those flags, banners and blue signs look familiar. The sign on the pole looks like it has

"New Journal Square" on it.

rob, I was sitting a big intersection, the oncoming traffic got their green turn light. The man started around the curve, looked down at his phone and drove straight into the metal "do not enter" sign on the dividing curb. I laughed.

I grew up in Jersey City (we're talking 1950s and early 60s) and spent many hours in Journal Square. Three movie theaters there, and one of them was simply magnificent inside, the ceiling like a planetarium among other things. I don't recognize one single thing from the pictures but the link was interesting.
