Bedroom layout and design general help

Dear people of Houzz,

I could really use your help. Soon I'll be moving into my first ever student housing. I'm lucky to have found a large room, but I have to fit a lot of stuff in there. I'm struggling with the most efficient layout, and whether or not to give a wall an accent colour, or put a large rug down for example, that kind of stuff.

I want my room to have an efficient, clean (borderline minimalistic) look. I hope you experienced guys have some advice and/or tips on how to go about this.

Furniture to be included:

  • Bed (160x200)
  • Desk (dimensions not specified)
  • Fridge (50x60x60)
  • Enough closet space
  • Seating (either chairs or a couch, I included an L-shaped couch in the model)

Any and all advice is welcome; my main questions are:

  1. Where and in what orientation to put my bed?
  2. Should I paint a wall?
  3. Hang up shelves against a wall?
  4. How to get enough storage space without looking messy?

Thank you!

If I forgot some relevant information, please let me know.
