I would utilize the back, smaller wall for the relaxing/reading/dreaming/watching the rain space~oh to be 8 again! Number 1, since she already has a bed in her room why go thru that expense? Number 2, sitting a further distance from the window strikes me as more appealing~hot, cold, glass, isn't a good combination. A crib mattress might be the answer to use on the back wall~the length could work and width shouldn't be a problem at all. Get it off the floor with a box-like structure, or make something like *this* using pallets(you can usually get them free!)I'm all about making things easy. A heavy duty glue/adhesive would secure the mattress/base together. We're a family of readers and I've managed to create reading nooks in several of our rooms. Here's DD's room. I'm not sure how well you can see them, but there's a small wrought iron bistro table and chair pulled up next to her window seat for extra seating, etc. Out of the pic, to the right is a matching built-in bookcase: This is a close-up of it with the new throw pillows for it. When I designed this area, I made sure that her window seat would be wide and long enough to serve as an extra bed for company. I bought 4" thick foam and made the cushion for it. In our guest room, this chair by the window makes a cozy place to read. BTW, just last week I replaced the carved wood nightstand there with a more Western-looking oak one. No pics of it yet, though: In one corner of our living room, I created this cozy spot where I like to read. I just took this pic and have to apologize for the glare. This area is to the right of our fireplace and has a window above it and a glass door wall out to our front portal on the other side of it: And finally, I actually have 2 reading nooks in our MBR. This is one to the left of the bed, next to the glass door to our wall-in garden. I tend to read here more in the Summer months: Once it's cool enough to light a fire, I prefer to read here: I've also made a cozy reading area for us out on our front portal, complete with 2 lamps so that we can read there after dark, which we do a lot at this time of year, but I don't want to overwhelm you with pics (LOL) ;^D Lynn

I think your best bet would be a very narrow table against the wall, with a couple of chairs. I’d do some searches like ‘eating table small room’ ... ‘eating area small apartment’ ... etc. Apartment Therapy might have some helpful articles, too. I like your thinking ... wanting to turn a challenging space into something usable. My first apartment was a “studio apartment” — I had only a tiny corner in the living room for an eating area. No window, just looking at an ugly wall. I think it could be a nice, charming space. And yes, I think a bistro set would work fine, too. Once you get whatever you decide, then see how/where a reading chair might fit in.

I’d repair wall before painting and add lamps on the nightstands to create more interest as well as better balance and proportion. Regarding sitting area, it’s too lined up. Place chair on an angle (opposite to below) and create a sort of corner vignette. The painting is not working and use a smaller/lighter piece to the right of the chair, so it relates the the seating - per below. Also suggest rearranging the shelving to better compliment room and reading area - could be really attractive
