Comments (7)Yes katusha, Ponder hit the nail right on the head. I did finally find out what it was using the old fashion method called books. And 50 lashes with a wet noodle to me for not resorting to the method that did me so well long before the computer age, I'm becoming too much of a techno junkie for my own good. I have a vast library of books and that should have been my first reference. It took me all of 10 seconds looking through my Taylors book of annuals to find it. And worse thing is, I'm very vocal on the joys of the written word and here I don't even use my vast library, hanging my head in shame. I was just coming on to post that I found it when I found both your post. Where this plant came from, I have no idea, I know I never planted it, guess a friendly bird figured I needed it. Considering it is growing as well as it can in conditions it should not like, I'm considering it a gift, I just hope I am able to harvest some seeds, sure would like to see it in good growing conditions. If it does not seed in time for me, we are having an early fall, I think I'll look for seeds come spring, I've kind grown to like this thing. Maybe I'll dig the poor thing up and pot it to be brought inside, I have a whole reverted 3 car garage that is a mixture of bar and plant overwintering room, if nothing else, to give it time to reseed. And yes, I did read that it is toxic, but fortunally or unfortunally, for the first time in years, I am able to grow toxic plants. I was unable to have children, but I have had all the neighbor kids grow up in my gardens, I was always the crazy neighbor lady with all the fun stuff, use to come home to a mass of kids playing on all the stuff I put up for me to play with, would even find them in the house, never knew where I was going to find a kid, lol. But right now, 'my' kids are all old enough to know not eat anything that I do not give the ok for so I think I can grow it for the time being....See MoreHoping Someone will be able to ID this Rose bush
Comments (12)Thank you, Carol and lilc5. The picture above actually looks a little more coral than in person. The best color I have found to define it is crimson. It sure is funny how different times of day affects the color. Ann, I'm afraid I mis-led you regarding the petals turning white. When I look at the roses in full sunlight, there is a white cast that I mistakenly thought was fading petals. I guess it's just the way the sun hits the petals. They actually just fade to a darker shade, kind of pink-blue-gray. It's hard to describe but I will post more pics of the fading blooms later. Wish my camera would capture the true color. I just can't seem to get it and I've tried many settings. Looking into the R. multiflora in its parentage lead (thanks, Ann). May have to check out a library book... something I haven't done in years!! I found this article about Polyanthas and I doubt that I will be able to identify it with any certainty unless I learn a LOT more about roses. Maybe I can find this book from H. Scott Hansen. Here is a link that might be useful: About Polyanthas by H. Scott Hansen...See MoreStill hoping for an ID on this rose
Comments (5)I know what you mean about the resemblance, but I think the flowers have too many petals to be Tausendschoen. Does the rose have a fragrance? I believe Tausendschoen is scentless (or very nearly so). Also, does the rose rebloom? I believe Tausendschoen only blooms once (in late spring/early summer). To me the flowers looks like what I think a tea rose looks like (but then again I've never grown a tea rose, so what do I know?)...See MoreHoping someone can id this weed for me .
Comments (8)Maybe one of the two Eupatorium species with long-petiolate leaves (E. mikanioides or E. serotinum). Since most of the leaves are spreading, instead of held vertically, E. serotinum is more likely of the two. That species readily hybridizes with other Eupatorium, which could account for the non-uniform teeth on leaf margins....See Moreperen.all Zone 5a Ontario Canada
