Thanks for posting THIS. Looks like a better-than-nothing idea, could help the spread. My neighbor the art teacher is freaking out....thinking the schools will be ordered closed when covid numbers increase. Then she loses her job 2 years from retirement.

Sadly, school districts aren’t paying for this kind of safe guard. Teachers have to get ok s and then pay for them out of pocket, if allowed (Fire codes and AC).

I like this one, we have volunteered to sponsor and install in my daughter’s (K teacher) classroom. It still has not been approved.

Outrageous that teachers have to do this themselves.

I heard on the news that the best thing for a classroom was an air filter. Next best was open windows and doors for good air circulation. If I had a child in school I wouldn't want him in one of those stagnant air traps.

I think the barriers are a great idea to keep kids apart. Along with air purifiers strategically placed in the rooms, it could really help with transmission, I would think.

At the school I work at the principal had a shower curtain up to hang all around her desk. Her secretary put a shower curtain in front of her desk, instead of the plexiglass divider and a shower curtain in between her and the community printer.

Vinyl shower curtains off-gas something awful. I'd be very worried about the people in that room.

And as a former teacher, who’s going to clean all those shower curtains every day?

I think they can just be sprayed like the other classroom surfaces - hopefully, people will step up to help in classrooms like never before if they want their children and teachers to be safe.

I agree about off gassing - hopefully, they could air them before hanging and/or wash and dry them them. Air purifiers will also help.

Olychick...things need to be sprayed and wiped by someone. There is no magic cleaner for classrooms. Do you spray cleaner on your surfaces and walk away?

maddilee, well, yes I do! I was able to get some of this spray that would work on those curtains; I'm sure there are other products.

Those shower curtains surely cut down on throwing spit balls.

Comments here make me wonder -- we need a lot of new protocols. For instance -- Lysol works -- but can you imagine spraying all those curtains or plastic shields -- what kind of mask would protect your own lungs from the spray -- especially if the room is not ventilated or windowless?

The umbrellas are adorable--but would be dangerous and block views. Our building is new three years ago. No windows open, no individual desks. We believe in collaboration so tables are our only work surface. Shoulder to shoulder. We went from all one level to three so there are hand rails in stair cases that I have never touched..just imagine the germs on those!! This is going to be interesting!!

bleusblue, I would guess whoever is cleaning will be wearing a mask and not breathing in lysol. Spray at the end of the day and close up the room. Use air purifiers for both the virus and the cleaning fumes.

bleusblue, I'm going to guess that this is neither a particularly affluent community nor a well funded school district. Shower curtains are cheap, available, and better than nothing. I applaud their resourcefulness, as I suspect you do too in pointing it out.
