Glass doors vs. shower curtain over a whirlpool tub
Comments (2)Handshowers that come with Roman tub faucets are not for use in a shower situation with a drop in tub. They are for cleaning the tub or rinsing shampoo out of the hair of a seated bather. If you wanted a tub/shower unit, you would have needed to have designed the installation as such from the beginning and used a tub that was designed with an integral tile flange and then used a wall mounted tub/shower type of faucet instead of a deck mounted Roman tub faucet. Those tub/shower types of whirlpools are usually designed for alcove installation where a glass door can work with them just fine. But, since you've already put in what you have, the only way to use safely such a tub as a shower without setting yourself up for a lot of water damage is to do a "ring" shower curtain like you would for the old fashioned claw foot tubs. It's basically a rectangular suspended curtain rod that you use shower curtains with. A glass door of any variety will not work in your situation, as it will not keep the water off of the tub deck and walls, which is the big danger with using a drop in tub in such a situation. The water that splashes on to the walls and deck has no way to drain back into the tub because the lip of the drop in interferes. The water has to go somewhere, and that usually is your floor or into the walls and deck surround. This makes for a nasty moldy rotten mess in a few years....See Moreshower curtain in front of glass door?
Comments (1)I suppose that could come down to a matter of taste. I think your rod placement and curtain length are fine - they look like my own in my guest bath. The other two baths in this house are tiled to, and including, the ceilings but the same age guest bath (1955) is not. As for the clear shower door, I'd leave it. Bright, light, fresh, airy. That glass will have to be kept free of spots of course. I'm trying to imagine how much more privacy a guest would want when they've closed the door to the room. A small corner stool on which to place hair care items etc temporarily for those guests who may not be able to bend easily (or safely) might be thoughtful. I travel with a minimum of products and would be happy with less in a shower design than I might plan for my daily use at home....See MoreTub: Glass door or shower curtain?
Comments (6)I prefer a curtain. Easier to clean and with the right curtain, can look very classy indeed. Some of this will depend on the actual style of your bath, so if you'd like to drop in a photo of your actual bathtub, that would be cool. And as Mark pointed out, if one does need to bathe a toddler in one, a curtain is much more practical, so it will depend on if you foresee the need, or if you plan to sell in the near future, or if there's another appropriate toddler bathing spot in the house. The other thing I will note -- in one of the homes my parents had, the guest bath had a glass door. The crevices were a nuisance to clean. In fact, though my mother was a neatnik, there was always a tiny bit of bleah remaining......See MoreNeoangle shower with shower curtain instead of glass doors?
Comments (0)We are going to have our shower retiled and I absolutely hate glass doors! The upkeep, the etching of the glass (no matter what manufacturers promise), and the fact we aren't going to take time after ever shower to squeegee three glass panels. We have a country style bathroom with a claw foot tub and I'd like to use shower curtain for a more casual look and less time taking care of glass doors. If anyone has what I'm talking about, would you mind weighing in? And photos would be welcome too! Many thanks in advance....See Morejck910
