If you have a shower tub combination the glass doors are not a good idea. People have enumerated the reasons-hard to bathe children and pets, dangerous for the elderly, confining when you bathe. Also many of us do not want to add naked squeegee duties to our days. What if you are running late, busy, or tired after a long day ? It sounds like many people are married to those who brook no opposition about that squeegee. There is a bit more rationale to have them in a shower stall only. But I concur with those who do not wish to view the products from the doorway. I lived in a house which had an expensively remodeled bathroom. The architect had insisted upon the glass enclosed large shower. Those glass doors-which had tracks-were a nightmare to clean. Also having the shower closed from general air circulation at all times made mildew more likely to grow on the shower walls. One could ,of course, wipe down the entire large space with towels after every shower. That bathroom was quite pretty with skylights, high clerestory windows and imported Dutch and Portuguese tiles. It took hours each week to clean it. Never again. I've moved to an old cottage with older fixtures. It is clean and tidy and I have a heavy Marimekko shower curtain. A liner is actually not needed; the heavy close cotton weave keeps the water in. It is attractive closed and no one needs to see the shampoo. They make beautiful shower curtains these days. Lots of artist's workshops have hundreds. A really pretty one will cost $100. This is 1/10 or less than the price of a hard to clean glass door.

I had one rental with shower doors and the downstairs shower had a glass door. Never again. Worst set up for cleaning. Previous home had master bath shower set up where neither a curtain or door were needed. Best set up ever!!!

Hate glass shower doors. What happened to the effort to give us more walk-in free showers?! No new home builders offer a choice.
