PDF & digital e-books?

I have bought some on Amazon with no problems but the one I want is on eBay, pretty cheap, but I'm not sure how it works. Have you ever bought one off eBay? It says for iPad tablet & pc.

How are these sold I just don't quite get it? They say they have a certain amount to sell how does this work? Does anyone understand this? PDF vs eBook

Terilyn, there's a huge difference between getting a PDF publication directly from the author or publishing house before a book is published, and buying a PDF copy of a book from someone on eBay.

I've never heard of an ebook being sold on EBay. I have 2 kindle and get my books from amazon

Well, a pdf you can download to any device I think.

I use and love the product by amazon which is free for the pc Kindle for pc, you can download it in just minutes, and you can get a lot of free books from the amazon store so you can try it out with out buying a thing, I have a nice library on my pc made up of totally free books. Kindle Installing Kindle for PC on Your Computer Kindle for PC Frequently Asked Questions to find free books just do a search like this one but be sure you double check that the book you are looking at is free before you hit that button. "free kindle books list" It will be sent directly to your kindle for pc that you have selected it to go to. If you do a search here on garden web for Kindle for pc you will find a good thread discussing it.

Thanks for the info. I went to BJ's today and saw the Sony's two models. They are very firmly nailed down so I couldn't really hold them. The 10.1 inch Acer was also on display. I think having only one piece with the Kindle as opposed to the two pieces of a netbook is a decided advantage. Buying either one is a good dent in my budget. If I had a netbook I think I wouldn't ever bother to lug my laptop anywhere. I have used it in motels and for when my PC was down, but otherwise, it sits on the top shelf of the computer desk. The netbook could do double duty as a PC laptop mini and a reader. OTOH, the smaller e-reader would be the most practical and comfortable for me. I slump into my recliner and usually have from 1 to 3 cats on my chest and lap. When they are with me it is awkward to turn pages. I guess I'll have to wring my hands and work on a decision for a while longer. I do have another question; who would repair a Kindle if it had problems accessing their site and downloading? I have enough problems finding somebody both good and affordable to fix my computer. Nancy

I think the frustration with eBook prices has to do with the comparison to hardcover book prices. If I can buy a hardcover for $15.39, why should I pay $14.99 for the same eBook when the publisher doesn't have to print it or ship it? Also, places like Barnes & Noble do not offer any discounts on eBooks even if you are a member. That bothers me. Lately, the new releases have been priced at $12.99 which is better, but still too high IMHO. I think eBooks should be priced at paperback prices.

WOW!!! I was just in a tile store today and sooo want to redo my kitchen now!!! (Haven't even finished my art studio!) Do people actually finish projects?! LOL!! Anyhoo I was just totally drooling over some super nice glass tiles!!! I was so excited I had to phone Klinger and then hunt her down at work!(I'm always bugging her at work!Lol!) Even got her boss talking tiling tips!!!heh heh! hmmm...Me and Klinger scored some glass tile to die for...maybe I oughtta incorperate it in my glass flower project...will have to copy this info to my favs!!! I get PDF publications from authors before the books are published, I can download them to Kindle or Apple Books or documents.

I bought the book, (28 summers) it was a bit tricky to get it to my iPad but so far it's working. I am not tech-savvy I guess. It came in 3 formats PDF, Mobi & e-pub which I know nothing about. They say this is legal so I am happy with it so far.

Joann: Your kindle uses a format called MOBI. All e-books from Amazon are in MOBI format. If you get a book that's in a different format you can use an app called CALIBRE to convert it to the correct format for your device and then send it to your device from Calibre. PDF's generally don't convert well, just an FYI. But you can use PDF on a Kindle.

Yes, I had to use the MOBI, it worked fine. 28 summers isn't as fast-moving as I had hoped. I am reading "The Sand Dollar Inn" series and I just love it It's by Hazel Taylor. I think the first book is free, check it out.

Never heard of that. I get ebooks from my county library through the Overdrive app. And, of course, 1 free ebook a month with Amazon subscription.

Yes! At the beginning of the each month, I get an email from Amazon with a list of about 6 books from different genres that are free to me to download and keep. I am not a member of their additional subscription book program. In July, 2 books are free.
