Window treatments for odd shape windows

Hi, I am in the process of refurnishing my living room. I am having a difficult time on selecting window treatments for top,middle, and bottom windows since they‘re all different sizes. I would like to know if I should cover all windows? Or should I keep top and middle windows without window treatments? What type of window treatments? I would really appreciate any advice on what to do with these oddly looking windows, thank you!

Definately not the vertical blinds . In that corner I would do fixed solar shades on the top windows and then motorized ones on the bottom and in the other space just motorized solar shades. You do not mention need for privacy so a bit more info would be good

You have a few options when it comes to your windows and they depend mostly on your budget.

So you can have long motorized roller shades that cover all three window with one unit for example. Or you do individual units but manual operation for each window with the top and middle units pretty much fixed with a transparent or light translucent fabric. I would avoid some bulky Roman Shades for example and not cover to much glass to keep the light flow through this entrance.

OK...I have uploaded some pics to Flickr set at the attached link. I tried and failed to figure out how to post a picture as part of this message, so if anyone wants to explain it to me, feel free :) Please excuse the mess in the sink. As you will see, the problem is leaving room for accessing the office. I put down a measuring tape in one pic, it's hard to read but the length of the window wall there from the current counter end is about 3.5 feet. I originally thought "window seat" myself, but realized that a seat of any length would cause problems. Same for a sink, etc. One thought I have is to do a short lower cabinet area ending in a curve or angle? Here is a link that might be useful: Photos of kitchen

thank you everyone for all the suggestions. we're trying to avoid the ceiling mount drapery effect across the open loft, but that is a possibility. and we thought about creating some kind of hinged shutter - foam core is an interesting idea - but the space below the windows is not large enough nor could we fit any kind of shutter hinged to the side. Sigh... this is why these windows are such a pain. And we're trying for a homemade solution to avoid the expense of a blind company.

I'm wondering if there's another idea I'm not considering. Are you open to painting the room (including the ceiling) a dramatic, dark color? In my first house, my husband and I painted our vaulted master bedroom a deep cool green (kept the trim white), and we *loved* it. We were pleasantly surprised at how much it darkened the room at night, something we hadn't even considered, but were thrilled with. I also really like curtains, and if it were me, I'd mount a single rod over the tallest window, extending it 8"-12" past each flanking window. Color would depend on the look you were after. Thoughts? :-)

Roller shades or Roman shades that raise and lower would be odd and impractical in front of doors. If you have them lowered even a tad the door is blocked. The logical solution is no shades but drapes for doors and windows and hung on the horizontal beam across all windows and doors in the room. Make the rods wide so they can open without blocking any glass.
