Help with paint colors, please!

I’m painting the kitchen and breakfast area. I was thinking of doing a creamy white just slightly darker than the trim and cabs, which are SW Westhighland White. There is already a lot of color with the flooring and wood cabinets. Would that be a good idea? I did a sample of SW Futon and it might work but I wonder if I should do something with more yellow like SW Dover White, but too much yellow won’t work in my house.

Can I do the breakfast area a different color, like a darker off white, or should I keep it the same color as the kitchen. It gets a lot of natural light. The kitchen doesn’t have windows and gets light from the breakfast area and a window in the opposite room.

Lastly, I want to do the laundry room a very light beige. What is a good SW color? It adjoins a bathroom with a mushroom color...SW Loggia lightened a little bit.

Use the SW website as it gives you coordinating colors. If Westhighland White is your cabinets and trim they suggest Natural Tan as a coordinating darker neutral. Be careful not to have too many ‘close’ neutrals as it starts to look muddy - best to just continue same neutral or go slightly lighter or darker on the same color ‘flute’ (strip of colors from dark to light in the same shade). Also, check said neutrals against your backsplash as that has a certain tone to it and you want to stay in that color range. I love your floors and counters! Good luck!

And...love your wood lowers too! Also, SW Shoji is a nice bone white neutral that might be just enough tone difference from your cabinets and trim.

Zory, there is definite contrast, enough that you know the walls are not painted the same color as the trim. But it’s not super high contrast. I am going to attach a few photos. They are not ideal but I am out of town and these are the best that I have on my camera currently. I could take some better ones for you if I were at home. My kitchen cabinets are painted the same color as my trim and my ceiling is painted Heron Plume like my walls. If you focus on areas where you can see the white trim or cabinets next to the painted wall or ceiling, hopefully you will get an idea of what it looks like.

Just finished painting yesterday and got the furniture put back today. I love it!..it doesn't photograph well and it's hard to capture the true color. Sometimes its green gray and sometimes blue gray. It's very spa like. I've ordered new curtains and a bed side lamp. Need some art and something over the bed. I have an antique mirror than may work for over the bed. Will post more pics when everything is done..

Your couch and chairs are great, they can easily transition with your new space. I also think you should find a new area rug and work from there. While the ottoman still seems like it's in good shape, that is the one furniture piece I might change up to lighten the arrangement, something round. As for the paint color, SW Dower white is a high chroma white, some might even call it cream. If you want the trim to be more neutral, you will have to go with a more colorful wall color. But if you are happy with the trim being more colorful than the walls, something like SW Repose Gray might be a good contender. A lot depends on what you decide to do with the area rug and what direction you want to go in.

Thank you! We just put in the floors. It was dark Saltillo tile. Sooo much better! The Natural Tan looks pretty. That’s what I’m looking for for the laundry room!

Are you saying that doing a creamy white in the kitchen might make it look muddy? That’s something I was wondering. The island is very white and the cabinets already look a little muddy next to them.

Are you suggesting Natural Tan for the kitchen? Will that be too much color going on? Floors, two different cabs, backsplash. I was thinking I needed to keep walls white so it isn’t too busy. But I don’t want it to look muddy!

I tried a sample of Shoji, but I think it’s more gray than I want.

If you are going for a white look in the kitchen then just stick with your cabinet color everywhere.
