Odd step into kitchen - Need flooring advice
Comments (6)1921 is right in the heart of the "lead and asbestos" eras. Before demolition begins you may have to test some of the layers (if there is a visual indication that something might be wrong) for asbestos or lead (lead is more likely if the floors were painted). Before you go hog wild thinking you can get your wood floors refinished...please measure the wood. You can do this by finding a cross section of the floor (floor vents are SUPER helpful with this). You want to measure the amount of wood that sits ABOVE the tongue. You need 3mm of wood to have a successful sand and refinish. If the wood floors are original to the house (and I have every belief they are) then they may not have much life left in them. Wood floors can have a life span of 60-80 years. The occasional hardwood (something sitting under carpet x40 years) will go 100 years. A house built in 1921 = 101 years old. The original wood floors may be on their last 'life' span. It is possible they do not have another sand/refinish in them. Please check before you go on with anything (asbestos and lead testing can occur while you make your decisions)....See MoreHelp with Dog Wash area design!!
Comments (9)Where there is dog bathing, there is Great Splashing and Shaking! :) Ok, a little melodramatic but you're right to be concerned about your wood cabinet side. How about a temporary water protection used only while you're actually bathing the dog? My dog wash station isn't nearly as nice as yours but perhaps my "backsplash" solution would work to protect your cabinet while not putting tile on the wood. This is an Ikea desk pad Skvallra (SKVALLRA Desk pad, 15x22 ¾" - IKEA) for $6 US along with some 3M Command Clips on my painted walls. The clips aren't the best as the desk pad is heavy enough to slip out but the rubber bands help give grip. I'm sure that you could come up with something more upscale for your lovely area! I use four of these desk pads during a bath, otherwise they sit below the sink. anyway, hope this helps...See MoreWhat color should I paint casing and sash of this large window
Comments (4)I might do black for trim and shutters But if your bored of that would you consider blue? Dark or light? .... Otherwise it looks good!! Very fresh. If your only changing the large window I’d leave everything as is. If your willing to continue playing with it I’d consider the above....See Morefireplace mantle decor
Comments (43)can I please just say, get the lamp shades for the chandy's and no the floor lamps are not to small, and up light is NOT reading light. If you want reading light, get a floor lamp reading light it puts light where you need it and is non intrusive. I'm sorry but I just cant with some of the lighting suggestions. Going taller with floor lamps will not help reading. getting an adjustable floor lamp with a pharmacy shade, is infact for reading. Visually it is not going to stick out like a sore thumb. interesting - the floor lamps are too short??? I have struggled with the darn height and shade size for 9 years. I dislike when seated seeing the bulb....See More2ManyDiversions
