Which fabric should I choose?
Comments (7)I think the darker, more golden one would be better. The difference in color between the two won't make that much difference, if any, as to how much light the room gets, but the darker color seems to have the visual 'weight' to balance the wall color of the DR and the heavy furniture of the LR. I would see if you can have some wall sconces installed in the DR, or find other ways to bring in more lighting. Is there space on the wall across from the windows to hang a large mirror to bounce light around the room? Have you considered a reflective metallic finish in a warmer golden tone for the DR ceiling, instead of the stark white? Could you add mirrors to the back of the china cabinet to add more light reflection? Have you considered a different chandelier that puts out light into the room, rather than sending it all to the ceiling?...See MoreWhich sink should I choose?
Comments (11)Thanks so much for all who have replied. So, stainless it is. It really helps to have the imput of others, someone else to look at something to give an opinion. I've seen so many beautiful fireclay sinks on this forum that I love, but when trying to find one there was none that would fit my existing hole so the next best thing I thought would be cast iron, but it seems that the consensus is that a white cast iron would be too much white with my white countertops. So, I will go ahead with the stainless. Thank you! Now the next decision I have to decide is either to go with the 8 inch deep Julien stainless sink with zero radius corners(from their Urban Edge collection) or should I go with the Julien sink that is 10 inches deep with the more rounded corners(from the Julien classic collection)? The undermounting will add another inch to the depth of the sink so I'm worried that 11 inches may be too deep although I prefer the rounded corners. I like the 8 inch depth of the Julien Urban Edge collection sink but am worried that the sqaure edges may look too modern in my old fashioned traditional kitchen. It seems impossible to find the "perfect" sink.... Helou, the fridge is a 20 yr built in subzero that just keeps on running strong.... cilantro, I am sorry that you are not happy with your cast iron, how frusturating that it has stained your countertops! Thanks for letting me know that your Kohler cast iron has not held up well, that's too bad. What did Kohler say, have you called them?...See MoreWhat type of flooring should I install?
Comments (40)Solid hardwood that you can refinish again and again and again for 60-100 years. Or you choose the product that comes the CLOSEST to your "ideal floor" and then live with the down-side of that choice. Many homeowners expect "indestructible" from materials that are easily marred. They are still perfectly functional. They just look less than ideal. It all comes down to homeowner expectations. And the concept of "wants vs. needs". I've seen clients expect indestructible, life-proof flooring (ie. what you would get with a stone floor) from cork flooring (the softest wood in the world of flooring). The cork was still doing it's job but the homeowner didn't like how it was behaving. In fact the cork was behaving like cork - no better no worse. But the homeowner's expectation was a floor that would be live like stone but feel like carpet. Totally unrealistic expectations for cork. That being said, the homeowner needs to figure out NEEDS (kitchens and baths NEED water proof flooring) versus wants (wanting a floor that is soft as carpet but water proof as well). There is no 'perfect' floor that gives everything to everyone. Figure out the NEEDS the floor must have (characteristics) and the figure out which categories of materials will GIVE YOU those needs. And then make the best of the options you have been given....See MoreReplacing wood flooring. Should I choose laminate or hard wood?
Comments (21)If you want something that is waterproof, they do make AquaGuard or NuCore laminate flooring that is made with recycled rubber. You could also go with a wood look tile option. But you could never really go wrong with a hardwood floor to increase the value of your home. Just throwing a few options into the ring.
