Kitchen Layout Help Requested
Comments (28)funky - I am very practical. The stuff we use every day stays out - I see no sense in adding extra steps to hide it away. For us, that is blender, coffeemaker, hot water pot, and microwave (or possibly the Breville now??!). I like clear counters but don't need to have them "magazine" cleared and stuff hidden all the time, just doesn't work for our lifestyle. Partly why I'm really struggling with the layout - I want it to be practical, but my current kitchen is a small galley. Everyone in our family manages the big dinners with small, sort of inefficient kitchens in old houses but makes it work. No one has an island, prep sink, etc. So my frame of reference is sorting through GW and trying to think through how my own workflow goes. Easier said than done! : ) I tried to meet with a kitchen designer but the only one who does that in our area basically said, "Our cabinets are going to cost more than the custom Amish so you really shouldn't waste your (our) time" and pushed me out the door before the appointment even got started. I even tried awhile back to meet with the KD from Lowe's but after a lengthy appointment and multiple follow-up calls they never actually provided any sort of plan. Neither of my custom builders or architect had a KD to recommend in our area, seems no one is really that into worrying about kitchen design except GW?! : ) mamagoose - Thanks again for taking the time to draw that out, it is giving me a lot to think about. Will ovens on the fridge wall allow for enough "landing zone" area? Would the best landing be on the island probably? Seems like that will be fine for the oven, but for the fridge that doesn't give much space with the prep sink there. The island does have a 15" overhang for all seating areas, but I may not have it noted. There is more than 24" width for each seat as well....See MoreWhat's your favorite fiber supplement?
Comments (67)snookums - I usually split my ghee order between regular and cultured. Cultured ghee has a mild (tangy) fermented flavor, but not a whole lot of difference between it and regular. You would want to use cultured ghee (or cultured butter for that matter, if you make or purchase it) as a spread, not in baked goods, since heat destroys the "good" bacteria from being cultured. That's why I never heat-process homemade sauerkraut. I'll freeze it, but won't home-can it, to preserve the good bacteria. And you're right about the high price of Kerrygold butter. We just use less....to compensate for the higher price, but believe the health benefits are worth it (even on my $125/month food budget for 2 adults). TIP: If you are buttering pancakes/waffles, toast, etc., if you melt a small amount of butter first, apply it with a pastry brush, you'll use MUCH less than if you spread it with a knife. I buy less-expensive butter at Aldi for baking and often use a blend of coconut oil and butter in baked goods. Coconut oil is expensive, too, when you compare it to butter prices (although butter prices just went up a couple months ago). The nice thing about coconut oil is that you can use up to 25% less in many recipes, than the amount of fat it's being substituted for, and get the same results. I also blend natural peanut butter (purchased or homemade) 50/50 with softened coconut oil; keep it in a canning jar at room temperature and use it as a spread. Sometimes I'll add a little sweetener to the mix (coconut palm nectar, molasses, honey, golden syrup, maple syrup, sorghum syrup, all will work). If you get a sugar craving, slowly eat up to 1-T. of this mixture (or even plain coconut oil). I start with a teaspoonful and the craving will usually go away....See MoreWhat's for Dinner #348
Comments (104)No 100 for this WFD is my post about matcha. ( green tea powder) Do I like it ? Meh it's alright but not terribly impressed. I tried it as a tea made with hot milk. Then because I could detect a faint seaweed smell, I next made pancakes with smoked salmon which were nice but so were DH's non matcha ones according to him. He didn't want matcha after smelling it. There is still some left so I will gradually use it but I wouldn't go out of my way ( ( which I already did) to purchase it again. Jasdip, the strawberries are tiny in real life so it didn't occur to me that they looked like lychee but I can see where you are coming from in the photo....See MoreIs cloud mining a safe strategy for earning money?
Comments (6)Cloudless Mining companies mine the miner. Stanford, Brannan, Straus made fortunes selling mining supplies. If you have Leonard skills and can write your own tools, mining could be profitable. If you like to speculate, you could just buy crypto currencies. I have seen crypto currencies “ATM”, instead of dispensing cash, one enters cash( I don’t think they take visa). and receives a receipt with their crypto currency number....See Moresjerin
