I don't know if I would pay the upgrade to the new LiGi compared to the W1/T1 combo. LiGi is obviously a commercial piece of equipment and it works great. I have used it. The older W3038 units were pretty good, but the LiGi were obviously better in results and use (money aside)

the W1/T1 units (which I own) are great in their own right. The DOS concept is great. Tons of programs and a reasonable phone app. The dry time is commensurate with the wash time - maybe an hour each for both. I like the heat pump dryer and it is way better than the old condenser

LiGi are going to get hotter faster than W1/T1 just because of the power at 220v. The new LiGi should be out sometime this year, although that may change with the virus

Depends on how much money you have. The cost of the units as well as any wiring you need to have done. If money isn't a problem, go with the LiGi

Honestly, I would LOVE to have a LiGi! But for financial reasons I would end up getting the W1. The 1600 rpm spin in the W1 likely is going to remove quite a lot of moisture and I doubt that the dryer would require 3 hours to completely dry unless it is a very large load of towels. As you mentioned, if she is doing smaller loads that really shouldn't be an issue. Remember also the major benefits to a heat pump dryer like energy efficiency, HVAC load reduction, gentleness of clothes, etc. As far as using the sanitize cycle, you more than likely need to have it set up for hot and cold fill to end up reaching that 160ºF mark within a decent time. Let us know if you have any other thoughts!

I believe the new LiGi dryers are heat pump. Who knows when they would arrive in the USA

its a bit difficult to comment on $; obviously if that was the main factor miele wouldn't be in the equation (craigslist anyone). we look at it more pragmatically 7k over 20 years etc

FWIW periodically(over 20 years)we try the mainstream stuff but keep relearning that you get what you pay for. appreciate the comments but would like some info on the 7135C dryer if anyone has firsthand information. Seems miele has gone totally the "green way"which is fine but I'm looking at the trust but verify angle.

W1/T1 is pretty good, obviously the new LiGi is way better. If you had it before and have the money wait until the new ones come out.

probably best to contact Miele directly. I don't think they sell the old LiGi much in Europe anymore with the new ones out. Just because they have them in Europe doesn't mean much since those at 50hz, not 60 hz which is what US uses

I have had both the Little Giant washer with dryer and the the W1 washer (but not the T1 dryer). Although the W1 has many admirable characteristics, and many on this forum love it, my experience with it was not all that one would hope.

I had the W1 for about 10 months before a leak developed which Miele techs had great difficulty diagnosing (multiple service visits, out of commission machine for close to 2 months). Ultimately, Miele stood behind their machine, replaced it, at which point I opted to change to the Little Giant (I had to pay extra, although not the full retail price difference).

My logic in replacing the broken W1 with the Little Giant (which I had used extensively at a different house and was very familiar with) was that given Miele’s patchy and slow service network, I wanted the more rugged LiGi machine, which I thought might be less likely to break. Time will tell if this trade off (put in more money, change the electrical) was worth it. I think part of me was just so angry at being without a working washer for two months (the W1’s problems took that long to resolve), that I wanted to try something different.

With that as prelude, when the W1 worked, it did a good job at cleaning. I personally did not use the twin dos system as much as some people on this forum who find it incredibly convenient. I began to use it more when the sensitive version of twin dos was released.

My style of laundry is to do a lot of sorting and lots of small loads, so it sounds similar to your wife.

I am sure you have read here that the LiGi is rated to last many more operating hours than the W1 (and it should, given the price difference).

Pros for W1: price, does not require electrical change out, has a labeled “handwash“ cycle (in LiGi it’s the silk or woolens cycle that would most closely approximate this), twin dos (for some a pro, for others less so), “singlewash” setting for individual garments

Pros for LiGi: more rugged build, longer operating life, more cycle flexibility (easy to change number of rinses, able to add prewash in same cycle, can program in up to 5 rinses in cotton cycle, for example), programming bugs seemingly worked out (W1 will not always do what the manual says it should), fast (more powerful heater gets on with the job and finishes cycle fast, even when using sanitize/hygiene cycle), no nagging messages about “use the Twindos“ to avoid clogging the tubes, which for me used to occur about every 3 days.

I have a Miele gas dryer (now discontinued). Gas is so much cheaper where I live, if the dryer were to quit, I would go with a different brand (not Miele) so I could stick with gas.

Cycle times on my W1/T1 are close to symmetrical. I like it because I'm not really waiting for one machine to finish before transferring laundry. Usually around 1hr (1.5hr max) to dry a large load of towels.

Before I got them I was thinking it would be great to have two stacks of W1/T1, but after using them I don't have a need for a second stack. Although it would be nice for backup/redundancy purposes if one were to go down. Also could be useful when doing a lot of bedding like down pillows. I can fit two King down pillows in the T1, but if I was washing 4, the second machine would be helpful.

Features from LiGi I miss is the ability to set warm water rinses, and setting a lot of extra rinses. On the W1 you can set 1 extra rinse on each cycle, so depending on the cycle you choose it could be a total of 3 or 4 rinses which is still great.

I got my w1/t1 set in January to replace an old top-loader. I didn't get the TwinDos version. Our clothes have never been cleaner. The whites are whiter, stains I thought were permanent have faded or disappeared. I'm very happy with these machines. Since the coronavirus outbreak in my hotspot city, I've been selecting the "pre-wash" and "extra rinse" options on every load, pushing the cycle time up to 2.5 hrs. The heat pump dryer is excellent - I adjusted it to our soft water and it dries clothes quickly. A load of towels and bathmats dry in under an hour.

BTW we, as one poster suggested, considered gas dryer as we have also had this combo before (GE gas dryer--fast)and they do quite well but we didn't have gas line in current location. For others considering that option we can state it works quite well with LiGI washer and gas dryer -- albeit unmatched -- if you're looking for appearance you can match white but not optimum visually

@plana156 ... are you buying the updated bigger version ? What are you going to do with your older one ?

"old one" stayed with our last house we sold...we are getting the new (soon to be old) miele LiGi washer and dryer before they get replace by new models in july ---time will tell if that was great move or not

New miele little giant w/d installed and working well- Cycle times are generally spot on and very fast (compared with our LG it replaced) -- even faster if you have HOT water connection (which I didn't realize is optional with this machine). again thanks for all comments/advice--wife feels that its very expensive but worth it for the long run.
