Comments (50)RR, I got a ladder last year and a wheel barrow the year before that. I could ask for kitchen stuff but because Elery likes to cook, he already has all that stuff and he brings it to my house. (grin) Our latest "acquisition" is a Cuisinart rotisserie, he just finished 35 years with his employer and they let employees pick gift/bonuses from a catalog based on their years of employment. Comments (36)LOL, Jack, I need to get my cows one of those! FOAS, I hope your wife and daughter had a very happy birthday too. Thank you, everyone, for the good wishes. Naturegirl, unfortunately I did not get the good weather you wished for. We had a frost. (sigh) The cabbage, brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, etc. were just fine. Peppers and tomatoes were not so happy. Elery and I found every bucket, basket, hotkap, cardboard box we could lay our hands on and covered those plants. The zucchini were just starting to peek through, and I think I'll have to replant those, but everything else was just touched or escaped unscathed. So far... The cake was good. Wet, but good. Not custard-like, but soggy-cake-like. Not bad soggy, but soggy. I added a layer of dulce de leche because I had a can of that in the pantry, and it was a good addition, I think. I took pictures but have not loaded them on the computer because I've been busy saving the garden and entertaining Mother. I will, though, I promise! Sleevendog, I'm thinking I might like that rhubarb version better, I'm definitely going to try that, so thanks for the chicken AND the cake recipe! Elery built me two new planter boxes for herbs, I got a Tractor Supply gift card (Elery says you might be a redneck if most of your wardrobe comes from the farm stores, LOL), a new tarragon plant, a sprinkling can from The Princess, which she painted to say "Grandma's Grow Op - Water Supply" on one side and "Property of Ranchito Costa Lotta" on the other side. Of course, it was a plastic sprinkler and she used acrylic paints and when she tried to peel the stencil off all the paint peeled off and so the can is again green plastic, LOL. Ah well, it's the thought, you know. My brother called twice asking whether he had told me happy birthday yet and my Mother kept asking who was having a birthday, LOL. They're both confused, which is kind of interesting since they live in the same house... Ashley and the girls will come over later this week, after Mother goes home. Comments (44)Well, the verdict is in...I cut in a little early so the chocolate is a little soft. My take on it...eh. No toes curling. The pie crust...is definitely tender but it's not very flavorful. The filling was delish when it was warm, toe curling luscious. But now that it's cooled off, it's fine. Not great but fine. The cream is whipped cream...no surprises there. The chocolate curls came out fine and were easy to do. However, there's something very off about the full combo that is a miss. The curls are *very* chocolate, the crust is very bland and the filling is just so so. Somehow the balance of flavors to make the whole dessert work isn't there. I had filling left over which is in a bowl like a pudding, and I think I may enjoy that more than with the pie crust. But I have enjoyed making it, enjoyed the licking and picking along the way and am glad that only DH and I have to deal with the results. If it was a dinner party, I'd be disappointed.
