Kitchen facelift. Need help with backsplash.
Comments (28)Sure thing! It's a GE Profile range model JS968SKSS. It's about 20 months old and they don't make that model any more. IIRC retail on it was $1800 but believe it or not I bought it used off of Craigslist for $950 from a couple that was remodeling and converting to gas. It's in near new condition and was a great steal. I even had a professional mover pick it up for me and deliver it for $100. The new model is PS968SPSS with a retail of $2200.There is also the PS905SPSS which looks the same but has some different/less features for $1800. Had I not found the used oven I probably would of bought a Frigidaire Galley model FGES3065KF for $1600 at Lowe's. It looks very similar to the GE models and has all the same features (both are also convection) as the more expensive one if I remember except for the bridge burner. The Frigidaire also has a neat rack system. There is a huge price markup for ranges with front controls. A comparable Frigidaire (or even GE) range but with rear controls was about half price so I was having a hard time justifying the cost (I really hate rear controls and reaching over hot/boiling pots) so finding the used GE range made it a no brainer decision for me. I've only had it for a couple of months now and it's been great. The burners heat up FAST and the glass top is so easy to clean. The only downside is that the black top shows dust really easy. Good luck let me know you decide!...See MorePINK & BLACK KITCHEN - backsplash ideas, HELP !?!?!?
Comments (36)Since you clearly like pink -- and your color choices thus far seem to have turned out very well, fully living up to your own high expectations -- rather than detract from your original color choices with something trying to steal attention, consider using only a single row of 4" black tiles as your backsplash and leave the rest of your backsplash walls painted pink. If you choose a patterned backsplash, you may end up with a totally different look ... one that is too "busy" for the white and pink and black color contrast to be fully appreciated. Also, and, I think, importantly: It's much easier to decorate and redecorate a painted wall as your tastes or needs change over time if you have a painted wall than it is to decorate and redecorate a tiled one. You could add a spice rack and/or a magnetic knife rack and/or your favorite colorful trivet(s) and/or a floating S&P& sugar bowl shelf and, with a bit of sheet rock patch and paint, remove them without leaving any telltale trace (holes in tiles) that they were ever there. DO save some of your pink paint for any touchups so you can be sure to match it should you want or need to do so....See MoreNeed wall color and backsplash to calm ivory "yellow" cabinets! Pics
Comments (53)UPDATE in renovations! We have painted the walls Sherwin Williams Muslin, which almost exactly matches the cabinets, so If you want to picture it, literally look at our cabinets in first photos, it's the same color. We have picked out a Wilsonart Pebble Piazza Counter top. And we found a way to get some new stainless steel appliances! They are not here yet, but next week. After doing alot of reasearch with colors, Sherwin Williams Alabaster White goes really well with the Muslin on walls and Cabinet color, and ties in the Pebble Piazza Countertop. I can't speak for how it shows on your computer monitors, but it is a perfect neutral to warm cement looking countertop close to the first soapstone I posted only without the loud streaks of color in it. It is not cool undertone gray at all! Sorry the photo is not showing the colors better, I tried. But in the end, all I need to find now is a warm white subway tile that is really close to the Sherwin Williams color Alabaster! When you put an 8x10 sample of alabaster under the muslin, it still reads white but NOT a stark cold blue white. It is and off white yellow undertone white. Does anyone know of a specific subway tile (name/ brand/ color) that looks like the Sherwin Williams Alabaster paint?...See MoreHelp with kitchen backsplash ideas that don't clash with new floor
Comments (240)What a charming house! You've done great. I had somehow missed this thread up to this point, and I did not read all (or even a significant fraction) of the previous responses. I have a 1910 house and also don't like subway tile. But I wanted something that fit the era of the house. I ended up going with a simple (and extremely cheap) 4x4 white field tile capped with a contoured molding tile (that almost but doesn't quite match the field tile because I couldn't find a molding I like from the a manufacturer that did a 4x4 field tile that was 4x4 rather than 4.25 x 4.25. Adds to the charm). I have very few uppers, though. I think a 4x4 white (or gray, since you seem to think white is too stark) field tile with black or charcoal pencil liner would be cool. These all show a pencil liner with subway because that's what the popular kids are doing, but it would work as well with a 4x4 or other basic field tile....See Morecrystalpea
