Off center dining room table & medallion issue
Comments (6)We have asymmetery in our dining room bc our fireplace is not centered. We had the choice of centering the chandelier in the room or putting it directly in front of the fireplace, making the chandelier not centered in the room. We ended up placing the chandelier in front of the fireplace, but the table is centered in the room. Nobody notices, and I don't either unless I happen to be working on a project in the room. ;) In your case, I'd center the chandelier and medallion in the ceiling relative to the fixed elements in the room. It will be much more noticeable to not have the chandelier centered in your ceiling that your table not centered under the chandelier since there is a separation of visual space between the chandelier and your table. IMHO. Good luck!...See MoreKitchen table off center from French doors and how to you swag a light
Comments (4)I've swagged fixtures using hooks, no problem. They mke a type that pops open then you push them up into the ceiling. But, if this is permanent, I'd have an electrician come in and move the electric box....See MoreOff-center light for expandable table?
Comments (3)there's no extra cord, when the lamp is moved over, the "swag" dips a tiny bit lower. not enough to even be noticeable. you can paint a hook white if you think it will look alright (or just buy a white hook), that's up to you. you can always remove it and patch up the hole if you don't like that....See MoreDining room light is off centered.
Comments (4)I assume you mean "flush mount" vs. some kind of pendant. a pendant is always better over a dining table. if you want any kind of fixture to be absolutely centered, you can always have the wiring box moved. if the new wiring is only a few inches from the old location, and you can't (or don't want to) perfectly patch the ceiling where the old hole was, it can be covered with a rosette. here are some easier solutions: get a pendant and "swag" it. it's a common practice that looks perfectly fine for certain types of lighting. like, I think it looks fine over the table in the foreground here, but the other one over the island in the background looks terrible. or, if the wiring is only a few inches off center, it might work to get a light fixture that contains a cluster of lights with a wide box at the top. it might be wide enough to be offset and still cover up the hole. there are many types of lights like this, ranging from modern to more traditional looking. if a rectangular box is not the right orientation to cover the hole and still be centered, try looking for a fixture that has a large circular shaped base instead. (I literally don't know the terminology to use here, but a lamp store could help you out if you took this idea to them....See Morebranson4020
