Help Small Master Closet

Hi Friends! Would love to pick your design brain with our master closet. We have a remodel and ended up with what feels like a very small closet. Working with what I have here. Truly hope to hear any input. Have a wonderful day!

Attached are measurements. We have had folks come out and measure and frankly it either seems they are putting in way too much...so that it seems very tiny. Attached some of their ideas. My fear is having a closet that feels very very crowded.

Wish list:
•As much hanging space as possible. Ideally double rods. With a small section for long hang

•A row of shelves with drawers in the middle of wall (I love the look)

•And one more shelf for folded items. Doesn’t have to be huge. Maybe about 24”.

Am I reading correctly - the door is only 22" wide? Is there a door (and trim), or just an opening?

Option 3 (with curved clothes rods in the corner) is right out. Hanging clothes just don't work that way.

I think you need to allow 21 or 22" for hanging clothes. In your closet, 68" deep, if you hang clothes on the front and the back, that leaves you 24" to move around. I think that would feel awfully crowded. To see how it feels to you, hang a bed sheet in the closet, 24" from the wall.

If 24" isn't enough walking around space, you will be limited to hanging clothes on the back wall, and putting shelves on the side with the door (12 - 16 - 18" deep, depending on how much space you want/need for walking).

What will be in your closet? Will you have a dresser or chest in the bedroom, or is this it? Is it for one or for two people?

What do you wear for work? For at home? Do you garden? Do sports or gym? Do you accessorize with textiles or jewelry? Will you keep all that in the closet, too?

Without knowing any of that, I agree with Annkh: hanging space on the back wall only will make it feel the most spacious.

Use the two walls at the front for shelves and drawers.

On the side walls, have a full-length mirror on one, and flat storage on the other. By flat storage I mean hooks or a rack system for jewelry and accessories. On the sides of the shelves and drawers at the front, you might want hooks for your robe and favorite lounging sweater.

You don't have a small closet at all! But no matter the size of closet, how you use it matters.

Why not move the closet to the long wall to the right of the door (as you face the door wall)? That gives you a 13'10" long room. Removing the existing closet will let you position the king sized bed either on the wall opposite the door or the kitchen wall.

Another vote for two closets. I'm horribly messy (my walk-in closet is an embarrassment -- even the cats are frightened to go in, and they like to hide in little enclosed spaces ordinarily), while DH is neat as a pin and his small, non-walk-in closet is wonderfully organized. He'd probably either divorce me or kill me if he had to share a closet with me. ;-)

I was really glad to see the upholstered bed in the second bed option, cause as I was looking at the room pics & sketch, that what I had in mind IMMEDIATELY. I LOVE that room (LOVE small spaces) & here's my suggestions: 1. Upholstered bed in natural linen. 2. Closet wall & crown moulding in SW Westhighland White. Walls & ceiling in Canvas Tan (flat) 3. Bedding in a soft color...no pattern. Pattern will only make the room smaller. 4. An upholstered bench at the end of the bed in the same linen as the bed with perhaps contrast welt in the color of the bedding. Ebony legs. (Check out Bassett Furniture for both the bed & the bench as an alternative to where you're looking) 5. Ditch the globe pic. Whatever goes over the bed needs to be a simple stretched canvas in soft colors, or sepia tones. 6. I vote for simple bamboo or burlap roman shades inset on the windows. 7. Think more about texture than color & pattern in this room. 8. Consider these for over the nightstands to save all table space. When you build with the WOW and 4k square feet, (which sounds like a lot but is not ) . It is NOT when you give starring role /NEARLY five hundred sq ft of it to a great room in front of the entry. Another couple hundred to a "hearth" area ......and what will happen here is nobody will actually gather in the great room, the fire will be the traffic stopper. Then you give each of three bedrooms a "walk in " closet. etc Result? you are left with the master suite that seems ( is) out of scale to the wow in the middle. Also small scale kid/guest bedrooms. The only answer to this plan is to lose a chunk of the "covered porch" square off the kitchen corner, bump the master suite to flush with the kitchen exterior wall.Change the window, to two on the covered porch wall and center the bed between. Plan to lose the tub for a decent shower too. Adjust bath and closet , center the entry to those with a right and left side for each. Anything else requires a total overhaul of the plan. That would mean a second story with two beds and baths on a second floor. ..........a completely different house. But this much under roof on one floor, with allocation to functions as is ? Yup......this is what you get Bump the master suite....or build something else.. ( square off that breakfast nook in any scenario.)
