I would take off the shutters on the large window. I would do the new siding in a white or a very light color. I wonder if they just painted the brick.

Have you thought about replacing the door? It looks like a Victorian oval, which doesn't really go with the style of the house.

Emily Ray you can use MS paint to change colors in a cut and paste way.

I have the same color roof as your's and my house is Horizon Gray from Benjamin Moore.

I use Photoshop. I think if you go with cream trim, them you have to go for windows trim too., not just on the top.

When was the home built? You can have the paint stripped, but you have to worry about factors such as lead based paint if built before 1978 - once stripped, you can whitewash, however.

The home was built in 1955. We are thinking of doing either cream or white for the siding and then a darker color on the brick (bottom half of the house). We have considered black, charcoal or dark gray, or a dark blue. We want to go with something that will stand out but not look gaudy. I appreciate any input! Thanks!

(A different style door would work better than the Victorian one) I vote for same siding color for all of it, a color that works well with your gray roof since a lot of it shows, although Emmeren's photo is an interesting way to handle the two finishes of the siding..

Since you're just moving in, landscaping is the last thing you're probably thinking about. But this house could look amazing with much deeper beds with taller plants in back, perennials, bushes, hardscaping, and more. When you come up for air, and if you have some budget left, a small garden center can help you come up with the plan. Good luck. It's a pretty house.

(This post is a good example for people who want to paint their brick--next owners may not like painted brick, or they wish it were unpainted. I'm usually pro-brick because it adds texture to a façade and can work well with very modern colors--navy, black, charcoal. I usually suggest a brick walkway to enhance the brick and link it to beautiful landscaping. Why brick is considered worse than widely accepted vinyl siding, I don't know.)
