Paint Design Dilemma Exterior

help with brick & siding exterior color

Hi, I'm hoping to get some ideas on what color to paint our siding. My husband is adamant about not wanting to paint the brick, he really doesn't like the look of painted brick, so that leaves the basement cement, siding and trim that needs to coordinate with the ugly tannish brick. I have found a company that sells a brick stain that I will consider if I can't figure out any other way to stop the house from looking like an oreo cookie, but that is a last resort because that would involve me staining each brick individually. Anyone have any color suggestions to update our ugly house?

i'm not an expert, but i think your brick looks nice, but maybe not with the color of your siding and shutters. would you consider just painting the siding? maybe a creamy tanor a gray?

It has a lot of character and looks like a happy home. Lets give the siding and cement foundation a nice tan color paint to match the bricks. Remove the shutters, which are not really right for a house like yours. Add wider more modern trim instead. Trim color in a lighter tan/creamy color.

Be sure to paint all the downspouts the same color as the brick, not the trim.

(Nice combo)

Front door and garage door stained wood. Beef up the size of the porch posts at front door.
(Front door & porch posts. Ignore those wrong sized shutters.)

Put in some lovely landscaping with some curves.

Don’t go by pictures. Have samples of each color made and try it out on your house. Then look at the samples from a distance and see how it looks in your light with your roof color. The front of the house is most important, but you might want to consider test samples on other sides of the house as well.

I agree to remove shutters. Your house is not symmetrical so would be better not to do bookend bushes. On the left, place some multi-trunk graceful trees like a crepe myrtles in a deep bed sweeping from past the corner to past the house center. A smooth sweep, not the serpentine one will be easier to mow next to. The shrubs next to the walk look too close. Shrubs next to walks generally crowd it especially when it is the typical width that builders install.

Ha, ha. Aluminum siding really is wonderful. The only reason we painted ours was because it was a horrible color, that fake redwood color. So very dated even 20 years ago. You should probably power wash the siding. Once the shutters are down, I'm sure their prior location will be noticeable since it will have no dirt underneath except for those bugs who have built their home there over the years (at least ours did). We were told that the only reason to replace aluminum siding was if the wood underneath was rotten due to water damage. If you don't have any leaking from your gutters, you are probably okay. If you ever do replace it, take it to a scrap yard for $$.

I see a lot of pink/orange in the brick which is probably what you don’t like. I think if you went for a warm grey for siding, similar to the photo below, would be your best bet to neutralize those tones. Stay away from cool greys as they will show blue and have the opposite effect. Trim in a creamy white would provide a fresher look too. I also suggest losing the shutters, they look fake and don’t add anything. I would suggest adding wider trim to the upper windows.

I am with agreement of above. Paint the siding, foundation, and back deck the same color as the brick. The dark brown on it now makes it top heavy. Remove the shutters. You need attention to your front door area. To me it looks more like a kitchen door. The porch needs beefed up and a new door.
