Happy Arbor Day! Anyone planting a tree today in commemoration?
Comments (10)Well, I do have 4 Golden Raintrees, so there will (hopefully) be some color this summer, but I get what you're saying Ken, I have a whole lot of green. I have to say my husband REALLY likes the European Hornbeam Fastigiata's leaves. He didnt find them so interesting when he saw their pictures online, but he's taken a real liking to them, and comments almost every day how good they look. T I adore the Red Horse Chestnut! I know exactly where to plant 2 next Spring. They're wind tolerant too which is a must for me. We don't live in a wind tunnel but still, I never knew how windy a spot we lived in til I planted my trees. lol We took our daughter to the local (if you call 30 minutes away local) nursery and their prices were RIDICULOUS. Needless to say we didn't buy anything there....See More-----not much new to share, but a few blooms today happy day
Comments (7)Congratulations on your pretty seedlings. Normally, I'd pass by the yellows only because there's too much overall yellow tone in our garden, but S. Green Creek is so perfect, it gets my vote today. I'm glad you are getting some nice blooms "up yonder." The extreme heat with no relief in rain has created very, very bad conditions here in the Gulf Coast area, worsened by our 2 nights per week water restrictions. I walked out to the daylily bed today after church, and it looks like a war zone. Almost every daylily looks like it is dying, or is retreating underground. This has all happened quickly within the last three days. I've never seen such a disaster among our daylilies before. Nancy...See MoreToday Is A New Day, Let's Think Some Happy Thooughts
Comments (19)Bre, Yay for the little green tomatoes! They'll be big and red before you know it. Faerybutterflye, You're welcome. I just wanted all of us to try to shake off the gloom and doom of the past week and find one little beautiful thing to focus on to start our day.....not that we are not constantly thinking of the folks in Moore and Shawnee as well as other areas recently affected by severe weather, but just that we all know the sun comes up and the sun goes down and life goes on. Thank you for the birthday wishes. Helen, That is such wonderful news indeed. I have had Joplin on my mind so much this week, with it being the anniversary of the Joplin tornado and with there being similarities between the EF-5s that hit both Joplin and Moore. I hope that people in Moore can look at Joplin as a reminder that after the heartache occurs and the cleanup is over, then the rebuilding begins. I am a master at ignoring tall grass and weeds. I kind of ignore my flowers too while getting the veggies in, and this week I have been trying to make up for it by catching up on weeding and deadheading. Your garden sounds so beautiful this morning. I am loving the normal May weather. Here where I live, our forecast highs and forecast lows are exactly what they ought to be in May, which is great. Before all the storms hit, we were having 2 or 3 days a week in the mid-90s, and it is just too early for that. Of course, those temperatures made some cool-season veggies start bolting, and there is nothing I can do about that, but now that it is cooler, at least the weather is more pleasant as I remove them and then plant hot-season melons and southern peas in the newly available space in the veggie garden. With the way the cold weather held on so long, I keep wondering how it can be almost Memorial Day already when we just had our last frost 3 weeks ago. Maybe we'll get lucky and have a cool week or 2 or 3 before the June heat sets in. Dawn...See MoreToday is "Pi Day!"
Comments (12)Sweet! I set my alarm for this morning so I would miss the event, so tonight I have to remember to add the 53 seconds. I was thinking dessert pie, pizza pie, pot pie - why didn't I think of quiche?? Wish math was always this much fun....See Morebpath
