Happy Pi Day (3.14) to you all! Anyone else participating besides me?

I have plans for this from the peaches I bought at the Farmer's Market last summer that are so divine:

PEACH CREAM PIE

2 Tblsp. butter

1 unbaked (9-inch) pie shell

3 cups peeled, sliced peaches

2/3 cup sugar

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 tsp. nutmeg

1 cup half-and-half or cream

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Cut butter into small pieces; dot pie shell with butter. Cover with peaches. Combine sugar, flour, and nutmeg. Stir in half-and-half. Pour over peaches. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes. Chill before serving.

Nope, I completely missed it. Elery and I are building an island in the kitchen and my prep space is pretty much taken up with drills, hammers, tapcons, silicone adhesive. Maybe I could do a belated Pi(e) Day? I just really want to get this done before Easter, so no pie. Annie

Thanks goldblush! Ava, I use the pizza dough recipe that came with my Cuisinart countertop oven. Even better than the pizza, is the fact that my 10" cast iron fits in the oven! Here's the dough recipe. I made it the day before and kept it in the frig to save time. Pizza Dough 2 1/4 tsp yeast (or 1 packet) 1 1/2 tsp sugar 1 cup warm water 3 cups flour 1 1/2 tsp kosher salt 1 tbsp olive oil In a liquid measuring cup dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let stand until foamy, 5 minutes. (I make the dough by hand, but the instructions are for a food processor). Insert the dough or metal chopping blade into the bowl of a food processor. Add the flour, salt and olive oil. Pulse a few times to combine. With the motor running, pour the liquid mixture through the feed tube as fast as the flour absorbs it. Process until the dough cleans the sides of the work bowl and forms a ball. Continue to process for 30 seconds to knead the dough. Dough may be slightly sticky. Lightly coat a bowl with olive oil, add the dough, turn to coat and cover with plastic wrap. let rise for about 1 hour, the dough should double. Place on a lightly floured surface and gently fold over to punch down. Form into 2 crusts.

It slipped up on me. I totally forgot about pi day. How could I? Oh, well, I don't know that I'll be ready to make pie tonight after work. Rats.

So arley, if we're all being rational, then March is pi month. I made a lemon meringue pie last week. It seemed like the rational thing to do.

I like the Leibniz T-shirt - I have always enjoyed his writings. However, in his bio, the site makes a mistake regarding Calculus. Newton claimed to have "invented" calculus, and Leibniz claimed to have "discovered" calculus and considered Newton's claim of invention ridiculous, since, as Leibniz said, you can only discover mathematical relationships - you can not invent them, since they already exist whether discovered or not. To me, Leibniz was the better thinker and we use his notation today instead of Newton's. They both discovered calculus at about the same time, and Newton made sure that Leibniz would not be allowed to travel in England after that. However, Leibniz' argument for the necessity for the existence of a supreme being is circular and therefore meaningless. The only philosopher I like better is Kierkegaard.

I am planning on making a lime pie tomorrow for Kevin's birthday, which is March 16.

I forgot about Einstein's bday, how fitting.

We love Diane Arbus, RIP. When DS took a photography class, one of the first assignments was to bring in a bio/samples of a known photographer. He chose Arbus. Chip off the old (twisted) block!

Love pie, love Diane Arbus (forever), love Einstein. Arty math capable here.

My kids wound up as math geeks. I think they are arty as well - in time. I might have scared them off.
