Look at Yale Appliance's blog regarding reliability. The newer Electrolux models had significantly more service calls than LG. Enough so that Yale stopped carrying the Electrolux.

In Consumer Reports testing, both the LG WM3700HWA and Electrolux EFLS627UTT performed well. Between matching dryers, the LG DLEX3700W performed better than the Electrolux EFME627UTT. However, consumers who responded to CR's survey were extremely happy with these Electrolux appliances as were Home Depot customers.

So, are you on well water? Was the Kenmore HE3t always that bad? If not, have you checked the machine's drain trap (or had it checked) to make sure something isn't stuck in there like a sock?

Also, BTW, have you read and followed the seemingly endless lectures about how to avoid such problems?

I'm talking about the ones on regularly running hot washes and machine cleaning cycles, leaving the washer door open between uses, regularly extracting and cleaning out the detergent dispenser, skipping fabric softener, running extra rinses to be sure all the detergent is rinsed out, and avoiding home-made laundry soaps (especially with cold water washes). Also, toweling down the door gasket between uses if your climate is warm/hot and humid or your laundry area is.

Finally, are you maybe using more detergent than needed? Front loaders take a lot less than detergent makers recommend. Maybe a tbsp. of liquid detergent for a medium size load and 2 tbsp. for a big load. Less if you have soft water. I mention this because, where I live, detergent and soap residues are frequently the culprit for sulpherous odors in washing machines.

To add to what @jwvideo posted (which is spot-on), I didn't mention in my previous post that we went through this same decision process in the last 2 weeks. For over a year we were planning on the Electrolux for our new build, but after some of the service and repair issues came to light, we were looking more closely at Whirpool (previous had their original HE3T pair which worked great but we left behind) and the LG. Costco happened to have the LG on fabulous Presidents' Day sale, so that's what we ordered ($1699.99 for the pair). Free delivery, free install, 2 year MFR warranty (and if you buy using a Citi-branded card, not just the Costco-branded Visa, Citi gives you another 2 years' warranty).

I have a 527 Electrolux dryer. It replaced a Miele gas dryer. The Miele would completely dry most loads in 30 to 35 minutes. The Electrolux will take 60 to 75 minutes for the same load. My biggest issue is that the clothes tumble into the door. The dryer is level, but I found out that the moisture sensor is on the lower left side of the door rim so that clothes have to pass by this for correct sensing. For larger items no problem but socks frequently fall into this area and get trapped. The filter is there and sometimes I have to pause the cycle to remove socks and light items because they are sucked onto the filter.

Then there is the fact that sometimes I must redo some items because they did not get completely dry. Most times I can use the 18 minute dry to finish drying items that need it. Yesterday I had to redo a sheet and 2 pillow cases because they were still damp. The sheet actually had a wet spot on it and I saw it through the door as the cycle was in the cool down.

I have no experience with the LG but I can say what the particulars are with the 527. Maybe the 627 is different. Anyway the dryer is installed now and it is what it is.

Jwvideo- To answer some of your questions, yes we have well water and yes, we have checked/emptied the drain tap. There was nothing stuck. Unfortunately, we were not the orignal owners of the machines so do not know what kind of care was taken prior to us. We tried hot washes, leaving the door opened between cycles, cleaned the door gasket etc. but nothing really seemed to help. We just dealt with it for many years.

Do recommend powder detergent over liquid and/or any particular brand? Any other advice? We plan on watching the videos by Eugene Pallas/Lorain Furniture, as well as taking extra care of this machine to try and avoid those issues.

Do I recommend powder over liquid? I'm an agnostic on that, but some here feel strongly that powder is better than liquid with front loaders, and you can search on that topic to find their views. I've mostly used liquid detergents for the last decade and haven't had any problems once I figured out dosing for my town's water and my wash loads. I've mostly been using Costco's "Kirkland Ultra Clean Free & Clear" at or slightly below a 1 tbsp dose for 10 to 12 lb. loads. YMWV.

I agree with jwvideo completely. I use powder myself. Never had mold issues with the front loaders I had. I chose Bosch but would have preferred Miele. I would not go near LG products of any kind do to poor reliability and service in area I live in.
