LG washer pounding noise
Comments (67)And now a follow-up to my March 8, 2017 post: after working flawlessly for ALMOST 3 years, the hammer had returned! Upon the advice of a plumber friend, I removed the arresters and shook whatever water that would come out of them out. I then reinstalled and they quieted things down for about 3 washer loads then the pounding started back up again. I came to the conclusion that the gas charge had failed which was verified by the customer service department at Sioux Chief. I was told to put a pencil, etc into the plunger hole and push - if I met with great resistance, the arrester was OK; if the pencil was able to move the plunger, the charge had been lost. My charge was indeed lost. Since the installation was less that 3 years ago, the warranty kicked in and a new set of 2 is to be mailed to me. I was then advised that because I have a newer, high efficiency washer to install 2 arresters per line to lessen the shock and extend their lives. Long story short, I purchased 2 new arresters and installed them; when the replacements arrive, I'll install them in tandem with the original 2. They had better last longer than 3 years - MUCH longer! BTW, Lowe's pricing has risen from $9.99 ea to $ 12.99 ea today!!...See MoreLG 4801 CW Washer
Comments (24)Bookert, the LG did not add enough water to clean laundry. We did 4 loads, 4 because I washed 1 load twice since the laundry didn't get clean the first time. We watched it slosh the laundry around in a puddle of water. That and no "spin only" cycle was more than enough reason for us to return it. Like Whirlpool_trainee said, FP does have a HE model. I will never get a HE washer again after the experience with the LG. The FP manual says the agitator model we have uses a "hybrid" technology, combining the best of top load features with the best of front load. It cleans amazingly well. It has a selection of spin speeds. The second to the fastest works well enough -- the 1000 rpm (I think) vibrates a bit too much for my liking on the uneven old house basement floor even after we adjusted the legs for stability as well as we could. This washer has cut time in the dryer in half. The price is comparable to LG4801. We were lucky and got a dented FP marked down, which helped recover the re-stocking fee for the HG. Maybe you could return the LG for cash? Good luck....See MoreDeciding between LG 3700 washer /dryer or Electrolux 627
Comments (10)Oddly enough, I just got done helping a friend with the exact same choice. She wound up picking the LG WM3700. Here's what we came up with in making the decision. First thing is to understand that Consumer Reports's survey and the Yale Appliance Blog reports are measuring different things. CR's survey covers five years of ownership but excludes any problems or product failings which were covered by service agreements (i.e., it excludes anything covered by manufacturer warranties and/or extended warranties.) YA reports first year service calls on the brands of appliances that YA sold (i.e., it only covers warranty calls within the first year of ownership.) Also, YA reports all service calls for the type of product by brand. Some of the calls for a particular brand and product , say, Electrolux washing machines, will be be for breakdowns and some will be for customer problems (maybe not understanding how to operate the thing) and user errors (maybe overdosing on detergent.) It bears noting that YA's business model is to service what it sells. The service part is done under contract with the manufacturers. (These days, pretty much all appliance manufacturers contract out their warranty service.) The reason YA quit carrying Electrolux and Firgidiare washers was a combination of two things. One was the high rate of calls they were getting on the Electrolux full-size washers that they sold in 2016, 2017, and 2018. he rates of calls was a high 20% in 2016 (25% for products from Electrolux's subsidiary, Frigidaire) up to nearly 40% for the Electrolux and Frigidaire washers that YA sold in 2018. The other factor was Electrolux's meager reimbursements to the service contractors. YA seems to have concluded that the combination of high rates of service calls and low reimbursement payments from the company made it unprofitable for YA to sell Electrolux washing machines. As a complete aside, it is interesting that Yale found that Electrolux's compact front load models, EIFLS20Q and EFLS210, generated the fewest service calls for any brand or type of washer. So where does that leave the OP, Terri, in deciding between LG's WM3700 and Electrolux's EFLS627? My friend concluded that you get better odds with the LG over the Electrolux, so she chose the LG. Some other considerations factored into my friend's choice. Both LG and Electrolux have poor local reputations for warranty service and support. Beyond the warranty period, the LG looks easier to work on and is suitable for DIY work. (If you have not already seen the videos by Eugene Pallas/Lorain Furniture, he has several on the WM3700 and the 3770/4370 models where he make this point.) Also, in our area, the LG is carried by numbers of sellers including Lowe's. Lowe's provides free delivery and installation even to our rather rural location, which somewhat lowers the price bar. Lowe's does not carry Electrolux washers any more, and everybody who does will charge between $70 and $150 to deliver and install an EFLS527. Finally, we have a local expert appliance repair service guy who does post-warranty work on just about everything. He told my friend he favors working on LGs over the current Electrolux models. YMMV in your area....See MoreWhirlpool or Electrolux

Some of the discussion links to a Yale Appliance Blog about why that dealer stopped carrying Electrolux laundry appliances while the membership surveys by Consumer Reports indicated that most recent Electrolux models had above average eliability and customer satisfaction. I also ran across a report by Combo52 (the automaticwasher.org screen name for a Washington, D.C. area appliance dealer and servicer) who reported on March 21 that “We have seen very few problems with the last few generations of EL-FD FL washers.” He found that the Electrolux dryers were problem-prone. While waiting for further responses here, you also might want to search at automaticwasher.org to see what else turns up on your chosen models....See More
