What software was updated that caused this problem?

I would do a "restore" on the PC to a date that precedes this update. If you don't know how to do that, reply back and I'll give you the details. It's not difficult.

Sometimes a slow connection can cause a hiccup with a software download and that can lead to problems. Easy enough to back up and then try again another time, though these are two different steps.

Glad you posted over here for help. When she tries to download malewarebytes it doesn't show up in the download folder. On edge she doesn't get the little box that will let her pick and choose where she wants the download to go. Mary

This added comment doesn't focus the facts any for me. Sorry.

If the user has Norton, there's no need for Malwarebytes. If the PC isn't behaving normally, the previously recommended Restore action should resolve the problem.

Behavior of a browser with downloads (ask where or preset destination) is a user changeable option with all browsers. If one browser misbehaves, use a different one.

Where is that option in edge? I never had to do anyrhing in edge to get that little screen to show and wonder where to find it. Mary

In Edge, clicking on three dots at upper right of screen or Alt-X sequence brings up the menu. Click on Settings, General, then scroll down, you come upon options for downloads. Where to save, and whether to have a pop-up ask what to do with a triggered download.

I've long found it useful and easiest to create a first tier folder called C:\Download folder. That way, I can quickly get to anything that's been downloaded without having to click, click, click through unneeded layers with obscure names in the folder tree to get to what I want.

Additionally, with Alt-X or the three dot entry method, another selection is Downloads. Click on that and you can see downloaded file history, open a downloaded file, examine the folder it is in through WIndows Explorer, etc.

Ok thanks, saved that for future reference. The poster solved the problem by switching to chrome so apparently it was all browser problems with edge and IE. Mary

Chrome? Where is that mentioned?

She posted about this else where on a non computer related forum and I suggested she could get help here. Over there she said the geek squad felt it was browser related and try a different one. Maybe the latest update messed up edge and IE. So instead of actually trying things to fix those browsers chrome worked so she went with that. Lately on this other forum quiet a few are complaining about windows 10 updates messing up the computer. I am having no problems with them on my desktop and laptop so I have to wonder why I am trouble free. Mind you I won't complain and I really like 10 but then again I don't know a lot other than I have rarely had trouble with Windows compared to other people. Mary

Hundreds of millions of people use Windows 10 without difficulty or incidents of problems. When an individual PC has a problem after any kind of software download, especially with a PC that has a dodgy internet connection, a hiccup with that (as previously mentioned) is likely the culprit and can be dealt with as per above.

Personally, I don't think an operating system is anything to like or dislike. It's kind of like engine oil - it does its job 99+% of the time and when it seems like there's a problem, there's usually some other cause.

I got updated too and some software takes a long time to load too. Example: Outlook. Trying to use Mozilla Firefox just takes forever when I try to load a webpage by typing the URL. I get the msg saying Mozilla is running slow, etc. If I try to switch to Edge (click on the Edge desktop icon), I get an error saying that the class is not registered. IE gets the same error as Edge.

I think that this last update is buggy. Microsoft strikes out again.

I am now using another PC that has not been updated yet and it is ok so far. Is there some way that I can prevent the update from installing on this computer?

Both my computers got updates the other day am I am not having any problems. Mary
