I am so angry with this update. That is because it is trying to force me to use Edge which I do not like at all. Try it every once in awhile and just don't care for it at all. Now, with this newest update, anytime I click on a link in an email I get to an IE screen that just shows the URL addy at the top; that also happens when I use Chrome. With Edge this does not happen. So, thought I would go ahead and use Edge. But I still don't like it. I don't know what to uninstall though, because when I look at the installs it appears that nearly everything was updated on 11-17-2016. And I see nothing that notes the installation of 14965. Do any of you know what I need to delete in order for IE and Chrome to work correctly.

With this update, I am beginning to not care for Microsoft and their tactics at all.

Been trying to resolve this and, so far, no luck. Here is a copy of the string that was loaded on the IE website when I clicked on a link in an email. The whole screen was white except for the string at the very top.

The saga continues. I do have access to IE 11. The problems exists when clicking on links within emails. For example, the one above.

I got rid of IE soon after W10 install and use only Edge and FF only for Java run chat rooms, I like Edge very much and have n/p's at all with it works great quick and efficient.

It's probably popping up as you describe because Internet Explorer or Edge (it's unclear to me what you're looking at) is set as the default browser.

There's no need to delete anything (and doing so isn't advisable). Start Chrome, go to the Settings section and make it the default browser. That should solve the problem.

It's common behavior whenever a program that competes with others is installed, that it sets itself as the default for certain activities or file types. To the exclusion of others. Microsoft is hardly alone in doing this, most programs do so, it's nothing to get upset about.

I received Shannon's package today in the mail. The side flap had torn loose and been taped shut, but most of it arrived safe and sound. The seeds were intact, as was a book of American documents and speeches, and an American flag patch I can sew onto my denim jacket. The Betsy Ross flag pole had snapped in half, but I think I'll use the flag in a quilt I've designed and partly sewn, so that's cool. The card was nice, and a necklace was missing, but maybe it'll be found by someone and put a smile on their face. Thank you Shannon!

A month of so ago, I started getting emails from Zillow (have no idea how). They show a picture of a kitchen, the total cost, and then, when one scrolls down, they show a breakdown, by category, of materials and labor. It was a HUGE eye opener for me as I thought cabinets were a MUCH bigger part of the budget than they appear to be. One can subscribe to "budget", "mid-range", and "luxury" kitchens. I think the biggest price I ever saw for cabinets in a HUGE kitchen, was about $30-40,000. Appliances? Often $20,000. Countertops & backsplash were another high ticket area. And labor clearly varied, based on whether there was extensive electrical/plumbing work or blowing out walls. I asked my KD about this (he owns the company and also supplies the labor for most of the work), and he said that in the nearly 40 years he's been doing this, he has seen the cabinet percentage of a kitchen remodel go down substantially. He said this is due to many manufacturers doing semi-custom which cuts cost dramatically. He said it's a rare client who springs for total custom as they rarely need to be able to spec things to the 1/4 inch. He said there are so many ways to work around this and then do NOT involve "filler strips". My own kitchen is going to come in at around $25,000, $13,000 of which is cabinets. But my kitchen is an anomaly as I am reusing my kitchen counters/integrated sink, all the undercounted lighting can be reused, ceiling pot lights were done over a decade ago - only 1 new one added, existing hardwood floors are being used (finished on site 13 years ago), and we're even reusing the Perrin & Rowe faucet - it's still made and now twice the price it was when I bought it. So, in reality, I'm doing a $40,000 kitchen, I just paid for much of the high cost stuff over the years. Did I make some compromises? Of course! I wish the cabinet interiors were wood, not a thin veneer of maple melamine (they will be painted wood on the glass doored cabinets), but it was not worth several thousands more to get this. No one sees them but me and they will be easy to keep and clean. Am I getting every single thing my little heart desired? Again, no! But this is due to the fact that I have an 11 x 15 kitchen and there is simply no room to build in the microwave or get other appliances off the counters (without sacrificing valuable real estate which I was unwilling to do). Is it going to be a show piece? What kitchen that size is! No island, just a $99 Ikea 17" wide cart. I hope this helps you. Just a thought. Is it possible that there's nothing wrong with the browser, per se...but opening the link is being blocked on purpose by your anti- malware program...or Win itself...indicating that the link isn't safe??? Perhaps you security settings are set on High...allowing for very limited access to links...especially those received via email.

Other than that...I agree about making one or the other of your browsers the default browser. I have Win 7.1 and elect to use Firefox rather than IE so I've made FF my default browser which can be done either through Control Panel>Internet Options...or Control Panel>Default Programs.

On my PC with Windows 10:

Control Panel - Internet Options.. as with earlier Windows versions, takes you to the settings and preferences pages of Internet Explorer only, the same thing you get to clicking on Internet Options when in the program itself. There's nothing there that relates to other browsers.

Control Panel- Default Programs....as with earlier Windows versions, multiple steps will take the user to a page where very granular and (for a entry level user) very specific and likely confusing settings can be changed for defaults and protocols. The possibility and ease for someone bumbling around to do real damage to behavior by unknowingly making undesirable changes in this area is high.

My suggestion, to check a box in Settings of the desired browser to make it the default one, is very simple and is most unlikely to cause unwanted and unexpected consequences.

IE is set as the default browser. Still having the problem, which I never had before. Really strange. I am over my initial irritation. Just rolling with the punches. Now, which I click on a link in a newsletter which goes to a blank white page in IE with only a string (as shown above) at the top which is in black, I just copy the relevant info, for example: http://www.favesouthernrecipes.com/Other-Southern-Favorites/Simple-Prosciutto-Wrapped-Stuffed-Peppers, and paste it in the address bar and get the correct info. Just an extra unnecessary step.

Put Chrome or Firefox as your default browser. Get IE off. That's where the problem is.
