I am so angry with this update. That is because it is trying to force me to use Edge which I do not like at all. Try it every once in awhile and just don't care for it at all. Now, with this newest update, anytime I click on a link in an email I get to an IE screen that just shows the URL addy at the top; that also happens when I use Chrome. With Edge this does not happen. So, thought I would go ahead and use Edge. But I still don't like it. I don't know what to uninstall though, because when I look at the installs it appears that nearly everything was updated on 11-17-2016. And I see nothing that notes the installation of 14965. Do any of you know what I need to delete in order for IE and Chrome to work correctly.

With this update, I am beginning to not care for Microsoft and their tactics at all.

Been trying to resolve this and, so far, no luck. Here is a copy of the string that was loaded on the IE website when I clicked on a link in an email. The whole screen was white except for the string at the very top.

The saga continues. I do have access to IE 11. The problems exists when clicking on links within emails. For example, the one above.

I got rid of IE soon after W10 install and use only Edge and FF only for Java run chat rooms, I like Edge very much and have n/p's at all with it works great quick and efficient.

It's probably popping up as you describe because Internet Explorer or Edge (it's unclear to me what you're looking at) is set as the default browser.

There's no need to delete anything (and doing so isn't advisable). Start Chrome, go to the Settings section and make it the default browser. That should solve the problem.

It's common behavior whenever a program that competes with others is installed, that it sets itself as the default for certain activities or file types. To the exclusion of others. Microsoft is hardly alone in doing this, most programs do so, it's nothing to get upset about.

Outsmarting the tree rats (squirrels) around my house is a full time job. This past spring I hit on a new idea. When I plant a container I invert an empty wire hanging basket over the container and the plant gets sun and can be watered but the squirrels can't dig in it. Another idea: I bring in a lot of plants to "over winter" under lights in my garage. I have so many that it is hard to reach my hand under the lights (4 shop lights) to the middle for watering. So I bought a pump sprayer with a long wand and it works great! In late winter I add a little liquid Dawn detergent, few drops, to each gallon of water and not only does the soil get wet easier but the worms that are waiting to hatch into distructive pets just don't hatch. Don't know what it costs me to run those four shop lights all winter but I don't care. It is a small price to pay to be able to "garden" every weekend in the garage. Many people have mentioned that they mark their outdoor plants with a "permanent Sharpie". In my experience there isn't a "permanent Sharpie", they all fade and quickly too. A grease pencil/china marker or expensive "no fade" garden center marker are the only markers I have found that won't disappoint you by fading. Eight years ago I decided to learn about gardening so I tapped into my local library. I checked out nearly every book they had on gardening and learned so much. The Gardenweb forums are also a wealth of information and entertainment. There is always something new to learn and I appreciate all of you who take the time to write in your ideas. One last idea from me...I keep a small notebook on my computer table and jot down any idea I find that's new and I will want to try. Little pieces of paper get lost but I always know where my notebook is and also use it when I order "on line" so I will remember the name of the company and the order date. Tina or Trowelgal

Ok...I just copied what it said I needed from the instructions. The installation from my old Dell was all on one disk. I'd be afraid I'd mess up the installation if it ended up on multiple CDs. Maybe I should say that there would be more chance for error on my part. The instructions also said that the USB key should have a minimum capacity of 8 GB. Well, when I go to Control Panel, I see there are 45 programs now with total space of 1.12 GB. So what gives with them saying I need a minimum of 8GB? I'm guessing that it would all go on one of the disks at the link below. About them...it says, "This recordable DVD features AccuCORE technology which is 100x more scratch resistant than standard discs. Sounds like you've just about declared it dead :) If it is, it is, but I just wanted to try to narrow it down, and I didn't want to throw money around willy-nilly in the hopes of figuring out what the problem is. Your search took me to Ebay Canada. I took the liberty of changing the .ca to .com to get Ebay US, but with the same search. Why pay extra shipping if I don't have to? Like I said, I'm a novice at this, so I may not be entirely sure what I'm looking at, but from what I've noticed, I only clicked on the ones that had 3 memory slots (I have three sticks, so might as well use them), and from what I could tell, all the ones I looked at were listed as used, and total with shipping they still came darned close to $90. I did see this one below which ends in the morning (hopefully nobody here will sabotage me and bid against me!) and comes with a CPU which is slower than mine. I don't know the difference between a K8N-E and a K8N4-E. At least in the one I showed you earlier this morning, the MB was used, but the CPU that came with it was an UPGRADE to the one I have now. In fact, it's the fastest chip that can go in that board. The chip by itself (ATHLON 3400 CPU, 754 socket) is selling for $25US anyway on Ebay. I just thought overall, the whole repair would be cheaper, since I can replace my CPU for under $10, but if the going price of these motherboards means I'm going to wind up paying (total with shipping) $80-$90 anyway for a used board with no CPU, I just as well get the one with the 3400 in case my CPU is fried as well, correct? Thank you again, and forgive me if I'm being presumptuous. I just want to make sure I'm understanding correctly. If I'm wrong in any way, feel free to slap my wrist. Just a thought. Is it possible that there's nothing wrong with the browser, per se...but opening the link is being blocked on purpose by your anti- malware program...or Win itself...indicating that the link isn't safe??? Perhaps you security settings are set on High...allowing for very limited access to links...especially those received via email.

Other than that...I agree about making one or the other of your browsers the default browser. I have Win 7.1 and elect to use Firefox rather than IE so I've made FF my default browser which can be done either through Control Panel>Internet Options...or Control Panel>Default Programs.

On my PC with Windows 10:

Control Panel - Internet Options.. as with earlier Windows versions, takes you to the settings and preferences pages of Internet Explorer only, the same thing you get to clicking on Internet Options when in the program itself. There's nothing there that relates to other browsers.

Control Panel- Default Programs....as with earlier Windows versions, multiple steps will take the user to a page where very granular and (for a entry level user) very specific and likely confusing settings can be changed for defaults and protocols. The possibility and ease for someone bumbling around to do real damage to behavior by unknowingly making undesirable changes in this area is high.

My suggestion, to check a box in Settings of the desired browser to make it the default one, is very simple and is most unlikely to cause unwanted and unexpected consequences.

IE is set as the default browser. Still having the problem, which I never had before. Really strange. I am over my initial irritation. Just rolling with the punches. Now, which I click on a link in a newsletter which goes to a blank white page in IE with only a string (as shown above) at the top which is in black, I just copy the relevant info, for example: http://www.favesouthernrecipes.com/Other-Southern-Favorites/Simple-Prosciutto-Wrapped-Stuffed-Peppers, and paste it in the address bar and get the correct info. Just an extra unnecessary step.

Put Chrome or Firefox as your default browser. Get IE off. That's where the problem is.
