Which Artwork for my Bedroom?
Comments (49)Update - Well this has been quite the ordeal. I decided I would prefer the frames to be wood tone rather than painted. Since I knew I definitely didn't want the white, I figured, I would sand, stain, and if I didn't like the result, I could always sand again and paint the dark gray as discussed above. I started sanding and figured out this wasn't ordinary white paint, it was plastic-y and very thick. The effort required, and the end result wasn't going to be worth it. So now I just had a ruined white frame I didn't want to take back to my framer due to both expense and embarrassment at ruining his work. I went online and found a DIY framing site and bought the framing moldings cut to size. This only cost about $100, so I figured it was worth the price to not have to face my framer w my mangled frame. My handyman installed the frames while I was away, and it turned out really well! I'm still not absolutely in love with how these look. I think the green is too intense, just too much. But they do look 100% better, and will live with them. Thanks for all the advice everyone!...See MoreDrapes, Blinds or Others for Upstairs Bedrooms?
Comments (3)I think that blinds and shades are to be used for privacy/light control, etc. If they are needed then I would add sheers or drapery panels with them. I do not like the current trend of shades/blinds standing alone. It looks like the room is not finished. Your windows are suitable for whatever you choose. You could use decorative rods with grommet top panels. You can even use double rods so that you can have sheers and panels. The great thing is that panels come in countless colors, patterns, fabrics, and prices! You can get those that are blackout. Mount the rods so that they extend past the windows. That enables you to pull them wide open during the day. Panels are so versatile. They can be washable, inexpensive, and simple to change. This is quite unlike blinds and shades that can run thousands of dollars....See Morewhat length and placement of curtains in bedroom?
Comments (20)Mainenell - Definitely the 95 inch curtains - Put them at whatever height will allow them to just barely hit the floor (just above). Usually we recommend curtains be a width and a half for a single window. When making custom ( I know you're not), the fabric is 54 inches wide, and we go 1 and a half of that per panel or side. So that's 80 inches per side. You will never get that fullness with ready made drapes. Just get a full as you can. Get a wider rod than 40 inches. You'll want to place the rod so that most of the curtains are outside the window. It makes the window look larger and have more presence. A good rule of thumb is to put the rod brackets 3 - 4 inches or so away from the outer edge of the trim....See MoreWhat's the latest flooring color trend?
Comments (5)Go ahead and google "European Oak" wood floors. You will get THOUSANDS of photo hits. This is the range that is super hot right now. It has been hot for 3-4 years and will likely stay hot for another 3 years. When we say design trends, we are talking about the fashion LEADERS. They are LA and NYC. The further you get AWAY from these trend hot spots, the further you get from the 'heat' of hot trends. Example. In the very depths of the Heartland, you will still see people putting in the dark grays that were hot 7 years ago. Some will have already moved to 'light gray'. Not many have run into the BLISTERING HOT trend of WHITE floors. That was a flash in the pan. It was over in Hong Kong before it started to rage in California. It is entirely possible your area is in the 'luke warm' states which means light gray is just peaking in popularity. If that is the case, you can move forward with the look of European Oak (soft yellows with plenty of beige and silver). That will keep you 'on trend' for the next decade....See MoreDesign & Build . . . by Roger Perron, Inc.
