When it comes to making a big impact in the bedroom, Houzzers are drawn to bold colors, functional built-ins and standout lighting. Get the most out of your boudoir with these 10 design ideas drawn from the most popular bedroom photos uploaded from January through March 2018, measured by the number of people who saved them to their Houzz ideabooks in that period.
1. Metal mastery. Choosing the right metal tones for kitchens and bathrooms is always a popular design debate. Do you go with brass hardware? Or perhaps oiled bronze is best. But focusing on metallic touches can also have a big effect in the bedroom.
This master bedroom in Moscow features an abundance of brass, found on the chandelier, floor lamp, sconces and mirror. Note how the designer picks up the brass tones with the mustard yellow blanket and pillows.

2. Built-in beauty. While built-ins are most prominently featured in living rooms, offices and dining rooms, having one in a bedroom makes sense. A bed can take up a lot of space, so building bookshelves and storage around it helps maximize every square inch. This cottage bedroom in Palo Alto, California, includes a custom bed niche flanked by two floor-to-ceiling built-ins.
3. Alluring lines. Besides its serene and stylish cream-toned color palette, this Boston master bedroom also features some well-considered lines. Look at how the horizontal wood beam at the top of the four-poster bed aligns perfectly with the curtain rods on the back wall. The horizontal line in middle of the upholstered headboard continues the geometric look.

4. Wraparound wallpaper. Covering an accent wall with wallpaper is a great way to add pattern and texture to a room. The designer of this master bedroom in India used the same style principle, but instead of papering just a wall, he covered a swath of ceiling over the bed with wallpaper too. Not a bad idea for a space where one often spends a lot of time looking up at the ceiling.
5. Doubled-up lights. A lamp on a nightstand can be pretty, but it can also take up a lot of space. More and more, we’re seeing sconce lights replace table lamps near the bed, but the design of this Moscow bedroom takes the trend even further. Not only is there a sconce above the headboard, but there’s also a stylish pendant that drops down from the ceiling to light up the nightstand.

6. Artful accessories. Sometimes a piece of art is not related to the design of a room in the least, and other times the art greatly influences the colors and accessories selected for a space. This bedroom in Chicago is a great example of the latter. The two abstract paintings feature a white, black and green color palette that is picked up in the room’s accessories, such as the sconces, pillows and plant life.
7. Pet perfect. If you like to keep your pets nearby at night but not necessarily in bed with you, take some inspiration from this master bedroom in Providence, Rhode Island. Oliver, the homeowners’ cat, likes to curl up on the banana-fiber ottomans at the foot of the bed and has his own little tepee if he prefers more privacy.

8. Dramatic draperies. The designer of this master bedroom in Chicago created drama in this serene space by adding floor-to-ceiling drapes. Even though the tops of the windows stop far short of the ceiling, the oversize drapes help lift the eye and highlight the room’s tall ceiling.
9. Delightful desk. Finding space in a bedroom for a desk can be a challenge. The designer of this bedroom in Moscow made room for a desk by outfitting a deep windowsill with a piece of stained wood supported by metal brackets. The overhang provides enough space for a desk chair to slide underneath, creating a stylish workspace.
10. Pretty in pink. If you truly love a particular color, there’s no reason to stop at painting the walls. This Chicago bedroom embraces the color pink in a variety of ways. Besides the walls, which are covered in a dusty pink, the sconce shades, curtains, bedding and chaise feature various shades of pink.

As a retired Interior Designer, the lovely pink bedroom is so overshadowed by the intense orange that one does not even begin to appreciate the restful pastels. I would be having nightmares in this room if it belonged to me!
