Raggy Quilts for Christmas gifts? What do you think?
Comments (2)Hi, What a great idea. I'd love to see what you did. This is such a great idea. I've got lots of left over pieces of fabric, from sewing projects over the years. What a perfect way to use them and give as gifts. Do you just sew up the strips, and then use batting in between and back them? By the way, I introduced myself last year as a (lurker)... However, I was off for quite a while with family matters, and have just recently 'resurfaced'. I just enjoy and love all the wonderful things that everyone presents here. Glad I got to read about your Christmas project. Jane...See MoreWhat are you making for Christmas gifts?
Comments (22)I forgot all about the little sewing Jars I made for gifts and to sell. I'm using pieces of an old quilt in a canning Jar lid to use as a pincushion, and inside the Jar I made matchbook type needle keeps. I used printed cardstock(whatever is on sale for .12 at the time! lol)to line the lid, make the matchbook and to glue 2 pieces together and cut slits in to hold thread. I put in buttons, safety pins, and some iron on hem tape. You could use any fabric and some batting. And I think these would be good gifts for the college boys and girls on your list. So I mae some in plaids and paislies..masculine prints...too,lol! I'll try to find the exact page on my blog with the how to's and photos if anyone is interested. oh and i got the tutorial made for how to make a rose from a necktie...check on new page of blog.. kudzu/cherry Here is a link that might be useful: kudzu's Blog-sewing kits...See MoreWhat are you making for Christmas gifts?
Comments (6)hi Kathy! I'm making brooches/pins out of old and vintage neckties. Also headbands. These are very pretty and I think any age will love and wear them. And very easy and quick to make, and inexpensive. They'd make good items to sell at craft shows, too. I'm going to be making tutorials for these soon! All you need is neckties and needle and thread and pin backings or hair clips or bobby pins for the flowers. For the headbands you'll need neckties and elastic and needle and thread. These all take about half a necktie..I'm making a skirt out of the wider ends, and that leaves half a nice piece of silk! Check back in the next few days to see if the tutorial is finished yet. In the meantime, I have photos of what I've made so far :D Here is a link that might be useful: Kudzu's Blog...See MoreFess up...do you make mistakes wrapping gifts at Christmas?
Comments (14)I only made one mistake this year. I gave all the kids a digital frame. I bought a 2 gig memory stick for each frame. I have all their pictures and their kids pictures on the computer so for each frame I put all the pictures of them as kids for each one and a few group pictures of their kids and their cousins. I also put all the pictures that I have of just their own kids. I labeled each memory stick so I could keep them straight. After I wrapped each gift I put the appropriate stick in the box and put a tag on each gift as it was being wrapped. When I wrapped the last box I took the stick to put in the box and saw it had Robert and Shannon's name on it. Well, that could't be, because I already wrapped their gift. I didn't want to unwrap the gifts I had already wrapped so I put that stick in the gift and put the name tag on it that I thought it was supposed to go to. They all opened their gifts last Saturday anyway while they were together, so it was an easy mistake to fix. They have all called since getting the gifts to let us know how much they like the digital frames with all those family memories in them. That's quite a compliment. They have never thanked us twice for anything previously. Linda...See Moremindshift
