Guest Picks: Make a Fashionista Christmas Tree
Take cues from Hermes, Burberry and Tiffany & Co. for your tree trimmings this year
Fashion continues to influence home decor, and it has reached Christmas tree decorations too. I do a Tiffany-inspired tree that I call the Holly Golightly Tree. Tiffany-blue is the main color in the ornaments and boxes. Then I add accents of black (as in Audrey's LBD), lots of sparkle and vintage ornaments to make a very fashionable and pretty tree. Here are some shopping tips to get you started.

My tree is the classic vintage silver tree from the 1960s. There is plenty of space between the branches to hang lots of ornaments. I got a collection of Tiffany boxes for free on Craigslist a couple of years ago, and that is what started the idea for the tree. I tied each box with black ribbon, and the tree stand is actually one huge Tiffany box.
6' Silver Aluminum Christmas Tree - Vintage Style
This is a new tree, a great replica of the retro classic silver tree. You can find vintage trees at yard sales and on eBay, or maybe your granny has one stored away that she will give to you.
Elevate your tree. Most vintage-style and vintage trees are about six feet tall, but I put mine on the biggest Tiffany box to add at least two feet to the height of the tree. This also allows the the fashion-wrapped gift boxes to really be seen.

Set of 100 Clear Everglow Designer Mini Christmas Lights
Add a set of silver lights to your tree. Do not use green or white. These ones are really great because the wire seems to disappear.
Tiffany Blue 2" Favor Box
These little Tiffany-blue boxes would look sweet under the tree, or add an ornament hook and hang them on the tree.
If you can't find Tiffany boxes, wrap a variety of sizes of any boxes you might have in this Tiffany-blue paper. Tie your packages with black ribbon if you like the way my tree looks, or you can use red ribbon the way Tiffany ties their boxes at holiday time. White or silver ribbon would be pretty too.
50ct Ornament Set - Blue/Silver
Use a variety of aqua blue ornaments, both matte and shiny, and mix in silver. I actually mix in silver and lime green on my tree.
Don't be uptight about using bargain plastic ornaments sold in collections like this. They are a good base and filler for more special ornaments. As your collection grows over the years, you can phase out the plastic ornaments.

5.5" Fan-Tail Regal Peacock Sparkling Mica Glitter Christmas Ornament
Peacocks look great on the Tiffany tree. Don't be afraid to use the whole range of aqua blues, from the most pale to the most teal. Once all the ornaments are on the tree, the range of monchromatic color is very striking.
Divine Regal Peacock With Deluxe Curved Tail Christmas Ornament
Here's another awesome peacock ornament. You can just buy one or two of these if you are on a budget.
Onion Ornaments, Blue/Silver
Choose ornaments with a vintage vibe. These onion-shaped ones are a classic retro shape.
Aqua Ornaments, Sputnik Ornament, Vintage Aqua Ornaments by Christmas in Iowa
Buy vintage ornaments when you can. Etsy and eBay have the most and the best. Of course, check out yard sales and garage sales too.
Jaclyn Smith Traditions Midnight Clear Glitter Starburst Ornament
The starburst or Sputnik shape in an ornament is a classic. You can find new ones like this or look for vintage ones.
Ribbed-Glass Ornaments - Sea Blue
Glass ornaments add sparkle. These ones are new, even though they look old and collected. They also come in a darker aqua that you can find when you go to the site.
125-Piece Club Pack of Shatterproof Mermaid Blue Christmas Ornaments
This is a giant collection of shapes — 125 ornaments all together. This is a great way to get a base to build upon.
Premium Bead Garland - Frosted Matte Aqua Light Blue
Add garlands to your tree. I added black and aqua, and pearls, of course. I could not find a pretty black garland, so I bought beaded necklaces. I used pearl Mardi Gras beads, and I bought the prettiest aqua blue garland I could find. I love this one!
Lavish, Black, Fully Sequined & Beaded Christmas Ball Ornament
One of my finishing touches was to add black ornaments; they added something as chic as Audrey's LBD. A couple of years ago it was really hard to find black ornaments, but now they are more prevalent. I would only add two dozen at the most, and use the most sparkly ones you can find. These are perfect.
Beaded Garland for Christmas Tree or Wreath by Julissia and Co.
The idea behind the garland is to look like it's the jewels from Tiffany & Co. This one really looks pretty enough to wear.
Peacock Blue Finial Christmas Tree Topper
A finial tree topper adds to the vintage look of the tree. Again, if you can find a vintage one, all the better. This new one in peacock blue is stunning.
Glass Finial Vintage Mercury Glass Tree by My Heirloom Charms
Here's a vintage finial tree topper. It's worth the effort to look for vintage: the patina is just right. Using vintage adds to the nostalgia of Christmas.
Designer Stretch Glamour Metallic Jersey Knit Aqua
Most tree skirts are ugly. Get three yards of pretty fabric and wrap it around the base. I love this shimmering aqua fabric from Fabric.com, which is a most wonderful site for the budget-conscious decorator.
High Gloss Colored Gift Boxes
Why not do another version of the fashionista tree, say, a Hermes-inspired one? If you are lucky enough to have a stash of Hermes boxes around to get you started, you are indeed very fortunate. But you can buy orange gift boxes to get the feeling.
Here's some spot-on orange wrapping paper to cover any old boxes you have for an instant Hermès vibe.
Double Faced Satin Ribbons
Tie up your orange packages with brown satin ribbon. I would use a narrow one, 1/4 inch or so.
Burnt Orange Shatterproof 4-Finish Christmas Ball Ornaments
Use the silver tree and the silver lights I showed you. For the Hermès tree, add orange ornaments. This affordable collection has three textures and a nuance of color changes that will look amazing.
125-Piece Club Pack of Shatterproof Brown Copper Gold Tone Christmas Ornaments
This inexpensive 125-piece collection adds coppers and browns along with the Hermès orange. And there are several different shapes and sizes. You can do your whole tree with this set, and then add a few special ornaments.
Rustic Fire Copper Brown Icicle Shaped Glass Christmas Ornaments
These super long glass ornaments are drop dead gorgeous. It's like adding sexy earrings to your Hermès tree!
Sparkling Chocolate Brown Curly Ball Christmas Ornament
This is a sweet accent ornament to mix in with the Hermès-orange ones.
Holiday Tree Topper Copper Origami Star by The Starcraft
Isn't this the perfect tree topper for your Hermès tree?
Wool Blend Shimmer Suiting Brown/Silver
This wool blend shimmer fabric is like adding a Hermès throw around the base as a tree skirt. And it's under $7 per yard at Fabric.com.
Linda Dano Hand Painted Plaid Ball Ornaments
Okay, one more fashionista tree idea! Any Burberry lovers out there? Use the same silver tree and lights, and add plaid, plaid, plaid!
Christmas Plaid Glass Finial Ornaments
These finial ornaments are incredible. Don't worry that the plaid isn't exactly Burberry. Once you mix in a variety of similarly-patterned ornaments, the idea will come across.
Open Lid Kraft Gift Box
Burberry gift boxes are easy to do. Their box is tan, so grab some kraft paper boxes and add some black ribbon for the look.
Christmas Plaid Glass Onion Ornaments
Look at these onion-shaped plaid ornaments! They're so vintage, and so very cute for your Burberry tree.
Red Hot Shatterproof Icicle Christmas Ornaments
I would use some red ornaments too. These icicles are a nice shape contrast, and they are very well priced so you can fill up the tree.
Glass Finial Ornaments
I love these red finial ornaments for the Burberry tree. And add the black sparkly ornaments I showed you from the Tiffany tree. Burberry plaid has red and black on a tan ground. But of course, you already knew that.
Holiday Cheer Santa Claus Belt Christmas Ball Ornament
This ornament is kind of funny — it's like the belt on a Burberry trench coat.
Stretch Jersey ITY Knit British Plaid Natural/Red/Black
Here's a Burberry-style fabric to drape around the bottom of your tree as the tree skirt. It's under $6 per yard at, again, Fabric.com.
Or use your own Burberry throw or trench as the tree skirt. Work with me here!
