Material selection - Pulling bathroom style together

Karen Mikolainis

We've chosen a bathroom contractor and will be soon choosing all the materials. I am concerned with picking the right things and not making the space too busy, but also having some kind of touches that will make the bathroom look special and put together.

Overall, I'm most concerned with making the vanity / mirror / lights / fixtures look great. I like warm neutrals and would like a wood/cream/white/dark or black mix. I really like oil rubbed bronze, but think I need to go with chrome for durability on the sink and shower. I don't want to lean too rustic or too modern but somewhere in between.

Our shower will be Kohler choreograph and I want a textured version, their

For the vanity, I am thinking either a rustic medium wood or a dark/black wood.

I want light colored countertops, most likely Corian.

I am thinking of having our existing flat mirror framed by a local rustic/barnboard woodworker, but I don't know. Mirrors should be easy to change if I get tired of it.

Sconces or pendants? Light fixtures are hard.

The walls will be just drywall. Colors? Gah!

Our trim is a medium orangey-wood. I don't like our trim, but it is what it is and I've been working with it since we've owned the house. I am probably not replacing the doors, but they are totally flat, and a little beat up. Maybe I should replace them but that's another big project to take care of (all the bedroom / hallway doors.

I am not sure about a shower locker or shelves. The shower locker has some poor reviews for the shelves being slippery and falling out.

It seems that the shelves will be sturdier. Kohler has some shelves, and a shower bar that you can attach a shelf to. These have better reviews. I suppose I could put in any kind of shelf I want.

This their barre, one of the photos shows it with a tray:

There are so many decisions to be made, fairly soon!

This is very pretty. This may be slightly more modern/urban than I want, but I like this.
