European oak vrs hickory vrs oak?

Looking for engineered wood for busy house with kids + large dogs + rural acerage.

Salesman suggested hickory for hardness. When I mentioned I like the “look“ of oak he said European oak was harder than American oak and would work well for my house. But the sample he sent me home with just says “oak” and not specifically European.

Questions-

Is European oak actually harder/more durable than American oak?

How do you know you are actually getting “European” oak?

Should I stick with hickory for the durability either way?

Other factors for durability I should consider?

Really appreciate everyone’s help!
