Instant Pot - Uneven cooking results for whole chicken?

Comments (5)Well, it happens that this past year I acquired an older one (doesn't have the glazed interior). I read up all over the web and although I had doubts I plunged in and tried it. It was the most beautiful loaf of bread I've ever made. It has it's drawbacks, you have to soak it in water and put it in a cold oven, etc. but to me it was worth the trouble. I've added the recipe I used for a rye/wheat loaf. It came from my Southern Living cookbook. 2 pkgs. dry yeast ½ cup warm water 1/3 cup molasses 1 Tbs. salt 1 Tbs. caraway seeds ¼ cup oil (I used olive oil) 1 ¾ cups lukewarm water 1 ½ cups rye flour 1 ½ cups whole wheat flour 3 to 4 cups bread flour Dissolve yeast in ½ cup warm water in a large mixing bowl, stir and let stand 5 minutes. Stir in molasses, salt, caraway seeds, oil, 1 ¾ cups water, rye flour, and whole wheat flour. Beat until smooth. Gradually stir in enough of the bread flour to make a soft dough. Turn dough onto floured board and knead until smooth, about 8 minutes. Place in a well greased bowl, turn to oil other side, cover for about 1 hour or until doubled. Submerge bottom of Romertopf in water for 15 minutes. Remove from water and pat dry. Put the top of the Romertopf in the water to soak for another 15 minutes. Punch down dough. Put dough into bottom of Romertopf which has been lined with parchment paper. Cover and proof for 20 minutes. When proofed, slash the top of the dough 3 or 4 times, cover with lid which has already soaked and patted dry. Put into a COLD oven and set temperature to 425 degrees. Bake, covered, for 45 minutes. Remove lid. (Make sure you put hot lid on a towel.) Bake another 10 minutes. Remove from oven (again, place on towel). Comments (32)So I have owned 3 pressure cookers. The first one was from QVC I believe and stopped working a month after warranty :\ The second was an Instant Pot. I believe it was a 6qt. I liked it but noticed it took forever to come to pressure and on certain dishes I'd get a burn notice. So during spring time I saw another 6qt Instant Pot on sale at the grocery store and got it. It was a little different than the one I had. Man what a difference. It comes to pressure so much quicker and haven't had a burn notice yet. I have a love/hate relationship with the sauté function. It's nice to have but it gets way too hot and sometimes things tend to stick. I've tried posting some "What's your favorite instant pot recipe" posts on here but unfortunately not many respond. :( I'd like some new recipes. One quick recipe you can make is with small potatoes, baby carrots and chicken (I use thighs). The recipe says to sauté the chicken but I just toss it in. Then you add a bottle of Italian salad dressing. I usually use greek dressing. Alex9179: I have a manual PC, so am familiar with the extra time you have to allow for coming to pressure and cool down. I still love the way it tenderizes certain foods and the speed. Thank you for the link; I will explore. Sooz: The chuck roast sounds delicious! I would have never thought of meat loaf in a pressure cooker and chicken broth, too. Lalithar: The time saved cooking beans and lentils makes a PC earn its shelf space. I didn't realize they act as warmers. And glad to hear you like the IP brand better. Chocolatebunny123: Glad to hear from another pleased user, even if it is hubby who uses it. I remember as a young married, being afraid to use a PC, but my mother bought me one an insisted it was safe. I didn't read the instructions well and eventually tried to cook something in it that I wasn't supposed to and blew the vent out. IIRC it was chicken and dumplings and they were all over my ceiling. By then I knew how valuable the PC was for saving time and started paying more attention to how and what to cook in it. Btaylor10: I've never made yogurt, but we do eat lots of it, so that would be a neat feature. Moosemac: I like the idea of using it for broth and I like that so many have replaced appliances with the IP. Thanks for all your responses. Comments (80)I have both a 3 quart and a 6 quart IP Ultra and use at least one every day, if not both. Also have a Gourmia GAF635 air fryer, which I use almost every day. These have been life changers for me. I have a very bad back and could no longer stand for long periods of time cooking, so was not eating healthy meals. These two tools have now made it possible for me to, once again, eat very healthily. I cook nearly everything in it's frozen state; meat, vegetables, fish, poultry. Also cook fresh vegetables and they are wonderful in the IP or AF. Forgot to mention that I make yogurt about every 1 1/2 in the 6 quart IP in cups about the size of the yogurt purchased in grocery stores. I make it plain and unsweetened, so that I can use it in lieu of sour cream. When I want to eat one, I add one or a mixture of: apple butter, Nutella, jam/preserves, KoolAid, frozen fruit, fresh fruit, etc. One day I wanted a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, but didn't want or need the bread. So I mixed peanut butter and jam into my serving of yogurt; absolutely delicious....See More- 5 years ago
