Comments (13)I had one in the last kitchen. It was great. Once one of the seals failed, but it was only when I turned it on, and it wouldn't turn off, but just went to a drip. So, I turned off it off at the shut off valve, put a pot under it, called the manufacturer, they sent the O-ring. Which didn't fix it, so they sent me a new faucet. Never happened again. As for the lack of drain argument, do people have drains under the refrigerator if they have water in the door? I never have. The argument about having to carry the hot water to the sink, is not really a good argument against the pot filler. I for one did not ever dump hot water out of the pot when making pasta. Usually use a strainer to scoop out pasta. The amount of water that would be left in the pot is not that heavy for cleaning up. And I never dump my soup out. It is ladled out of the pot into bowls for serving. And then to clean it up, it is ladled into containers and sent to freezer or refrigerator and I carry the empty pot to the sink. I would absolutely do another one if needed. I did not do one in this kitchen because I have a prep sink located right behind the range on the end of the island. Last house only had one sink, it was very helpful. And by the time the new kitchen had 3 sinks planned for it, I'm not sure I could have convinced anyone that having a pot filler was necessary!...See MoreI have ordered an Instant Pot and am wonderful if any of you have ...
Comments (8)Congrats on your new toy! Perfect time of year for it. I have a Breville multicooker, which is similar, though the settings may be a bit different. I use it for beans and bean stews on slow cook. That means that I've attempted to sprout beans in it, but it only worked with cannelini beans. Mostly me being anxious about them disintegrating or getting mushy before they could sprout. Draining twice a day. Not plugged in or with the lid down (breathable cover). Just sitting in the wet trying to sprout. Then cook the beans on the bean setting, with the time adjusted as per the manual for the beans being soaked. Drained again, and while they're in the colander, brown the meat on the sear setting. I cut cheap(ish), lean beef into dice 1/2" tops because it want it to cook down to nothing. Set aside with the beans or in a bowl. Next, brown the onions on the sauté setting, and start the rest of the veg cooking once the onions are golden. Peppers, carrots, celery (mirepoix x trinity), plus anything I want to use up. Change to stew setting, add the beans and meat, diced tomatoes (canned or fresh), tomato paste or chili sauce, and some herbs and spices. I usually want to cook it half again as long as the base number, so I adjust that. When it's done and tastes "right", I use the reduce setting to steam off the excess water, to get a thick, rich stew. Comments (16)Same here, Melissa, mine is nothing like that one, either. HOWEVER, after having purchased a small one, I realized I probably wasted my money. It isn't something I use very often. Not cuz there's anything at all wrong with it, but rather because of the way I cook. Some days, I know right away what's for dinner. Many days, at noon I happen to think, what's for dinner. Sometimes it comes to me. And sometimes at 3 pm I'm thinking what the heck is for dinner. Many days, I'll think I'm going to make such and such only to realize at noon or 3 pm, NO, I am definitely not in the mood for that. I might be planning all day the day before that we're going to have salisbury steak tomorrow, for example and at noon the next day go, "NO way. We need grilled cheese with tomato soup." Everything in my cooking world depends on my taste bud yearnings at the moment. I hate it! But that's the way it goes for me. LOL SO. That's why I don't use slow cookers or my new IP often. Comments (4)Thank you for that link, Cherryfizz. I know there is a ton of info available about the IP but didn't know where to start. I just switched mine to slow cook for now but will try some of the ideas, probably the sealing ring.
