to save water, which front-load washing machine?
Comments (8)I would also not get a maytag...did u try epinion.com? I recently had a washer repaired and the repairman and I spend most of the hour he was here discussing front loaders. He said stay away from Maytag also. The repairs are frequent and expensive on their front loader. Maytag just "ain't" what it use to be...I would not own another maytage appliance even if they gave me one. Several years ago, I bought one of their top end refridges...side by side with digital veggie drawers for longer lasting fruit and veggies. More even temp control. Well, I loved it, the veggie and fruit kept far longer and better quality. But three months after we bought it, I woke to the smell of fire. The fridge had burned during the night..melted the inside completely thru. A wiring harness for the drawers inside the sidewall caught fire. My brand new fridge was toast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For three weeks I had NO fridge while I argued with them daily. This was the offer they made me. The fridge we had bought was discontinued )I suspect because of fire issues since it was a brand new model to begin with). Since our model was discontinued, we could choose from anything of the same value or less. Well of course there was no same value...and less was several hundred dollars less and considerable options less.....so because they made a fridge that caught fire and could of burned my house down, I should not only lose the food inside it (it was packed, both fridge and freezer) but I should also take an additional loss and settle for a lesser fridge for the same money I bought the higher end model. No money refunded....that was it, suck up the food loss, take a lesser fridge, and they keep the money diff. No way was I going to settle for that. After three weeks of arguing daily and eating out of a cooler, I got them to refund my total purchase price including delivery(they wanted me to eat that expense also orginally) and 100 dollars for the food. That was their last and final offer. I took it, but I should not of had to fight for it for three weeks. As far as I am concerned Maytag no longer stands for quality and service as it once did. I will never buy another maytag again in my whole life, nor would I accept a free one. I also already owned a maytag dishwasher at that time. This spring that dishwasher was in the national recall for fire hazards. It might catch fire. I already woke to smoke from one maytag and here was the only other maytag I owned also recalled for fire hazard. That speaks volumes for me....my family and home is far to important to ever own another maytag again.....so when my repair man said stay away from maytag front loaders I was thrilled to hear his advise... :))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) Avoid maytag at all costs...at least research the reviews on them....See MoreWhen Draining LG washing machines...
Comments (12)Does your LG Front Loading Washing Machine smell like mildew? How about your towels? Have you owned your washer for a year or more? Try shining a flashlight directly back to the drum wall. Look in between the tiny grates. You will be horrified at what you see! What I saw was a nasty layer of mold and mildew that I could not reach to clean. The LG technician said to run a few cycles with 1/4 Cup of Cascade and 1 Cup of Bleach. So far I've run two cycles AND I tried squirting bleach directly through the grid with a spray bottle. No luck. Sure, its a little cleaner, but how many cycles do I need to run? And what about the the parts that are inaccessible to my spray bottle? I'm very allergic to mold. Little did I know that I was clothing myself with it everyday. That explains a lot in terms of how I've been feeling. I DIDN'T HAVE THIS PROBLEM WITH MY TOP LOADING WASHING MACHINE!!...See MoreFront loading vs Top loading washing machine
Comments (11)I agree with Cynic. It really depends on your needs. Make a list of your personal needs by priority and go from there. I went from a TL to a FL but that is beacuse my number one priority at the time was the water rates went up so high here it was getting to the point I couldn't afford to wash my clothes. My water bill was cut in half and the FL paid for itself in savings within 10 months. Some of the basic advantages and disadvantages I noticed are as follows: Advantages of my TL 1) My TL rinsed way better than my FL. 2) It was way easier to find detergents for my TL than my FL. 3) The water temperatures on my TL worked way better than the ones on my FL. 4) The wash cycles were faster so I was able to catch up on laundry quicker. 5) No mold issues. Advantages of my FL 1) Saving a lot of money on water use. 2) Can do much larger loads, even comforters. 3) Gentler on my clothes. Our clothes have been lasting much longer. 4) Spins more water out of laundry lessening drying time in my dryer which is saving me on electricty when I have to use my dryer. 5) Stainless steel drum so no more rust spots. (drum in my TL had a nick in the porcelin coating so I ended up with rust spots on several articles of clotheing.) As far as servicing, they are kinda running neck and neck on that one. Both had to be serviced multiple times when I first got both, but the TL only lasted 2 years. It was really inexpensive when I got it so it served it's purpose, and the replacement parts were dirt cheap so it made it easy for do it yourself repair. My FL is covered under warranty, but most of the stuff that has gone wrong with it has been relatively inexpensive parts wise and the inside is so basic it looks very fixable for an owner to do oneself. Cleaning performance? They are neck and neck. Neither one was/is fantastic, and neither was/is horrible. Both did/do the job well enough. For reference, my TL was a low end, real basic Kenmore. My FL is what you would class as a low end, real basic Frigidaire Affnity....See MoreLG top load washing machine....is it any good?
Comments (14)I bought a brand new top loader and it’s so deep that I can even get the clothes out! I have to ask my husband to get them out for me. I’m 5’3” and I know that’s not very tall but still...I did not even think about this when I bought it. And I’m sure the sales person at sears didn’t want to say anything because I wouldn’t have purchased it if I knew I couldn’t reach the clothes. I honestly don’t think the clothes get very clean compared to a washer with a agitator. And also if you start a load of clothes you just can’t stop it and go out and when you return start it again. You can pause it but that’s it. After awhile it drains and then you have to start all over again. I was so excited to get a brand new washer with all the bells and whistles. Now I can’t wait till it breaks!!...See MoreRita
