Washing Machine Drain Under Kitchen Sink
Comments (9)I think you will have serious issues with suds lock in that long 3/4 inch PVC pipe. However, it will come down to you usage patterns and your specific application and equipment choice. Is it a top load? Top load has to pass about 10 to 14 gallons per fill out that little tube fairly quickly. A front load may have only 5 to 8 gallons to get out. Had the horizontal tube been 1.5 inch or 2 inch, you would have a higher success rate. If a top load, does it have neutral drain (pump all the way out before attempting spin)? Speed Queen does not have neutral drain and would have a tough time with this set up, it would burn out the belt quicker attempting to spin the load with water, might even eject water over the tub cover. An old whirlpool top load would likely pop the splutch from overload over time, a time consuming repair for the average Joe, but at least the part is cheap. You will definitely have more dry time as a result and more loads where the motor current detection software will keep it from going to top speed. If you have an electronic model with some flexibility you may be able to program a little more spin time. But be aware, spinning is generally what wears out the machine. If it had a default spin time of 5 min, changing to 6 min will take away about 20% of the expected machine life. Spinning wears the seal and bearing systems in particular as well as the pump, shocks if front loader, and pivot element if a top loader. High in rush currents are harsh on the motor if the load is high. Siphon risk? Hard to say. Most units have a duck bill back flow preventer just downstream of the pump so that after the water leaves the pump, it can't return to the machine. But generally you want the outlet at the drain pipe to be above the top water line on the machine. Your local inspector would likely not be very happy! Good luck. Comments (1)I am not the best person to answer your questions, but I did want to tell you that while I've been happy with the capacity of my LG (I have a top loading HE, 3 years old), the rotor (motor part) has gone out two times. LG's customer service has been great though- they are sending a tech out next week to fix the rotor, and they did so the first time. The motor is covered for 10 years. One question is, how far out do you live? Can a tech get to your house easily? My feeling is that maybe SQ is easier to fix than LG, although I don't know. To get my LG fixed, I've had to use the repair people that LG contracts with. One thing you might do is ask the appliance people who you would have to get out to fix the LG if there are any problems (if you want to get it fixed under warranty). Same with SQ. How do you feel about the capacity of your Bosch? Go to You Tube and look at some videos of Speed Queen and LG- you'd be surprised at how many videos there are of people doing their laundry there! You can get an idea of how much a SQ can hold and see if it looks okay for you. The large capacity is nice for bedding and towels, but I don't have 6 kids :) Honestly though, I've been happy with the LG for large loads, but for small and medium loads, the washer seems to have to rebalance those loads all the time- which it does by adding more water and redistributing the clothing I think this wastes more water than regular top loaders! I also find the cloths get all tangled because there is no spindle in the middle. Maybe I have a lemon, I don't know if other machines do this or not. For my 2 adult household, this is more drum capacity than I need. Do you do all your laundry together, or separate into colors? The LG seems to do best if it's stuffed to the brim (at least in my machine, I can't speak for others). I'm currently looking at getting a SQ!...See MoreLG washing machine error help?
Comments (17)I would suggest you not do that. You're going to really mess something up that you won't be able to fix on your own. The reason it happened is as I told you your machine went off-balanced, so much so it couldn't get itself back in balance so it couldn't spin and if it couldn't spin it couldn't eliminate the water. Just don't repeat the same mistake by doing as I said before either filling the tub to full, by not using the Bulky/Large selection, or using a high spin for a very large load. Once I realized my errors I never repeated them. I washed 2 pillows and a mattress cover and got the error. It's hard to balance pillows and mattress cover with fillings that hold water which made the water off-balanced so the washer tried to correct itself it couldn't due to all that water causing a delayed response in the pillows. Now I make sure never to wash them all together. I still love my LG washer, it performs as expected and even the True Balance still works as expected. It can only do so much within reason. It cannot correct a load overly out of balance. Please don't take apart your washer, leave that for repair people. If it ain't broke, don't fix it....See MoreLG front load washing machine
Comments (30)Thanks for sharing Rita. My inner laundry nerd is happy now! Amazing, isn't it, how quickly you can see a difference? I was stunned too when I got my new washer a couple of years ago. I wish you many happy loads of laundry going forward! FYI, I usually have to order powder Cheer and Tide with Bleach from Target or Walmart as my local merchants don't have it most of the time. I can get powder Tide (regular) from Costco when they are not out of stock and sometimes it's on a $6 coupon, which is nice. There was no powder Tide at my Costco for a couple months within the last year and I kinda hit the panic button there. haha...See Moremmk1964
