Comments (6)Open airline tickets used to cost double what a coach class ticket costs. Refundable, meaning , without a change fee ticket also costs more than a regular coach class ticket. Change fees start at $50 a ticket and go up from there. They give you a year to rebook. I was a travel agent for 4 years......but would I buy an open ticket. No. Change fees are fine with me. I'm holding 2 tickets now that I did not use. Note: You have to call the airline before the flight to let them know your not using them & you want to hold them for 1 year....See MoreAirfare for Spring 2003--buy tickets now or next yr?
Comments (2)I'd wait - I think you will find some real deals after the first of the year. I live in CA and often go to the east coast at the end of April - usually get some incredible deals early in the year. Last year got a farewatcher alert from Travelocity in January - bought round trip tickets from LAX to Reagan Nation (Washington D.C.) on Continental Airlnes - paid $120 round trip per ticket. Airfare is high right now because of the holidays - get on the email alert system on Travelocity, Expedia, Orbitz, etc. Cathleen...See MoreTickets? No Tickets?
Comments (8)The problem, as I see it, is that reunions can be a pretty pricey fee, and people who use to all live in the same place are now coming in from all over. I've done fundraisers where we might have one or two "But I paids!", but they're local and since the costs are low, we can just comp them on their word and straighten it out later. Here's an idea: Get a free email account from Gmail or Yahoo in the name of the reunion. When you receive a payment, enter it in your spread sheet, and send a confirmation e-mail to the payer, including names of attendees (or "2 guests" if you don't know) and amount paid. If they don't have e-mail, send it to the Reunion's e-mail (i.e., self) with the payers name on the subject line and mail a printout of it by post. For last minute payments, do the same thing but keep the printouts and hand them to the people as they arrive. If you save a couple of template e-mails, you can just plug in the names, amounts and e-mail address and send it off, so it shouldn't take any more work than mailing a paper ticket would. On the invitation, tell people that their confirmation e-mail is their ticket/proof of payment. This way you have a double check that can't be accidentally written over for what came in, you can look up if you sent the e-mail, and they can show you a print out, or the e-mail on their phone. That said, one of the emotionally worst things I've ever had to do was stand at the door of a paid event with a caterer, where the caterer demanded an exact headcount, and tell someone who was a member of the organization, but who hadn't paid, that she couldn't come in. So that's another piece of advice: Plan a few extra meals, etc., so you can comp someone rather than turn them away hungry....See Moresephia_wa
