Comments (2)Embarq but rosenut@rosenut.com is always good and my other correct e-mail address is correct at the top of the posting. Embarq is my telephone co. They took over all the Earthlink accounts bundled with their service and gave us new e-mail addresses. They claimed the reason for the change was too many complaints regarding the foreign hard to understand tech service. All tech service for Embarq so far has been good old USA responses....See MoreHAVE: 2009 Spring Swap in Marine City May 23rd
Comments (0)I'm sure there are many of you that are as sick of snow snow snow and cold cold cold as I am. Therefore, I thought I would get us all thinking of springtime by announcing 2009 Spring Swap. Mark your calendars! It will be held downtown Marine City, by the new town clock. Address is 475 S. Water St. Google Riviera Restaurant in Marine City 48039 and you will be able to find it. You are welcome to call me at 586 337 7498 if you get lost, or want additional info, or just to say hello! You can email me privately at gardenbabe@comcast.net too. Date: Sat. May 23rd, 2009 Time: Noon, swapping begins sharply at 12:30pm. This gives us all time to check in and check out all the participants plants. What to bring: Perennials, annuals, seeds, bulbs, houseplants, garden books, door prize (optional) Details: Door prize can be anything garden related or not. You will receive a ticket and tickets will be drawn during the swap. Seeds will be traded 10 packs=1 plant Bulbs will be traded 1 large bulb=1 plant Bulbs will be traded 5 medium bulbs=1 plant Small bulbs will be traded 10 bulbs=1 plant Garden books can be traded 1 book=1plant Plant details: Please label your plants if possible. Bring a table if you want, or just line them along the sidewalk. If it rains, the swap will be held in my garage at 241 S. Second St. I have only had it rain at two of my swaps, and they still turned out great! Gardeners arent afraid of rain anyways :) hehehe As with all my swaps, this will be round robin style. I firmly believe that this method ensures everyone to receive at least a couple of plants they really want. Don't have any plants to swap? Don't worry, come anyways, enjoy the beautiful waterfront of Marine City, meet new garden friends, and don't be surprised if you come home with a few new plants and invitations to gardeners homes to help thin out their plants, get ideas, give tips on planting seeds, etc. After the swap, anyone that wants to see my gardens are welcome to come over for appetizers and some nice garden conversation. Please bring your own drink if you want something other than water or koolaid. I will be opening my seed box stash to everyone at this time. If you plan on attending, please let me know if possible, so I know how much appetizers to make, and if attending the swap only, please let me know so I know approximately how many name tags to make, etc. Donations of extra pots or anything else garden related is welcomed and there will be a place designated so everyone can help themselves. Lastly, there will be a fall plant swap to be announced later and held September 19th. This will probably be at Lori's in Washington Twp...See MoreOT - Need Suggestions for High School Dance Coat Check!!
Comments (5)oh wow- here is the system my DD H.S. used. It can be hectic but did work. Get plain paper bags -grocery size. Number them. Put long tables as a work space and also to keep the students on one side and the adults and bags on the other side. Be sure the bags are in numerical order in and then break them into 4 to 6 piles with a couple of adults working each pile. Now when the student comes up you put all of their belonging into a numbered bag-frequently friends or couples want to share a bag. You put the bag's number on a piece of paper and hand it to them and you ALSO ask them if you can magic marker it somewhere on their arm (usually the guys but the girls like it on their palm). Then you line the bags up behind the tables on the floor. So- if you had 200 students you will have around 140-160 bags. Make you rows about 30 long and have about 5 rows. I think it would be helpful to have a sign on the floor and on the back wall giving the numbers that should be in each row. IF they do get out of order then you need only seach 30 numbers not all 160 to find the bag. Yes, the clothes get wrinkled. Yes, they come back again and again and ask for their bag to get a cell phone out or their comb. The important thing is that the bag is handed to them to get their own item out and then it is PUT BACK in numerical order. Yes the adults are exhausted by the end of the evening and there are always a couple of confused/lost bags. It is crazy at the very end and you need to make sure that the students do not break rank and come behind the table. It is a tried and true system as long as the adults maintain control. DD usually had 350-500 at a dance. Only once was it too difficult and that was a prom and the space we had was to narrow and the kids all crowded the tables and there was too much going on in too small of a space. And then one adult will try to change the system mid-way with a "better idea" (and I am sure there are some but let's wait till next time). Anyway-this is the only way I have seen it done. Good luck! It is loads of work but so much fun to see the students and to be helpful. Most are very polite although some forget their "pleases and thank-you's" but a little nudge usually reminds them. Hope this was helpful! I thought this system was nuts the first time I worked coats-but it does work....See MoreDarned If You Do . . . Darned If You Don't
Comments (29)graywings -- for 19 years DH and I chaired our Rotary Club Oktoberfest in our city park. DH decorated the Shelter House so it looked like Bavaria and I cooked ALL the food -- our numbers were always around 100. The last year we did it we had like 60 reservations. Our menu is simple -- brats and buns, sauerkraut, hot potato salad, Cole slaw and apple crisp. It's a family affair and people would bring their kids and so we got hot dogs for them. Well, those 60 came and then people who hadn't said they were coming came and brought guests with them -- we ended up with a little over 100. I had probably 70 brats. So we served the food! Kids -- no brats, hot dogs only (and some adults didn't want brats either so they also ate hot dogs) and one brat per person (in years past some took 2 or 3 first time through) and then we dished up the other dishes if the person wanted them. Believe it or not, EVERYONE got a full plate of food and there were a few brats left. We had some guys mad because they couldn't get their 2 or 3 but we smiled and said come back after everyone has gone through. And they did! It is forever in Rotary Lore as the Loaves and Fishes Oktoberfest! Those who helped me couldn't believe that we did it! And when the last one was served and we had food left, I'm not sure I believed it either!...See Morelucillle
