Help me pick a front door, please
Comments (42)Ah Tibbrix, I love a white house with black trim and this taupe home with the black door as well. The one photo I posted of the natural color shingled home and black trim is magnificent. If we do go with a more natural/taupe color house, I will definitely do a black door. It's the darn brownish color house, that causes me the grief. I still love the idea of a red door, always have, I just wonder if I'd eventually tire of it and then have to go get a new door. I think what is coming into play with leaning more towards the brownish color is because there are several other natural/taupe color homes in the development. We are on 5 acres, so it's not like another house is right next to us, and the one across the street is white. I just don't want something boring (yet not trendy either) It's a super tough decision. I wish the company we bought the house plans from had more photos of the exterior of our house or I knew someone who built the same home and could see the color scheme they chose. Also, don't forget the cedar shingles on the front will not actually be cedar, the builder said they will be siding and the sides of the house will be your standard horizontal siding. He said real cedar shingles will not wear like siding and will be much more expensive. We have seen them on other homes in the development and they look fine. Please pardon me not knowing all the terms of what some products are, but this is all new to me and I am learning :) I appreciate all your help....See MoreHelp me pick a paint color for my front door!
Comments (9)I think the teal color would be pretty and if you keep your yellow planters that would be a nice combo. Are you going to paint your shutters or the piece behind the light? The door knob and handle changed to a black would help tie it together as you have a black roof, a black light and some black brick. But from a safety point, I would like to make a suggestion: Have you thought about getting a wrought iron rail for the porch to keep your little one from falling off or when going up the stairs? If you removed the larger plant in front of the stair and added a black rail, this would be another design element (and safer too!)....See MoreComplete decision paralysis, help me pick a front door please!
Comments (11)Such helpful comments thank you. And special thanks to those of you who shared your photoshop skills! My husband is not good at visualizing in his head so that will help him out a lot. Funny I've been drawn to the mid-century doors but felt my house was too traditional looking, but I think you've all convinced me otherwise. The first door in teak is definitely a splurge, I don't think I'd even want to know what matching garage doors would cost though lol! Black is definitely ruled out now, I love the brightness that the lighter colors or even wood brings to that space. No longer looks like a cave. I agree that the light grey would not match the trim currently, however we just redid windows and soffit on the back of the house and swapped that over to hardie board trim around the windows in arctic white, so that change will likely be coming to the front of the house too at some point with the next repaint. I think now I'm leaning to the first wood door, or the grey with the multi lites, but possibly painted a pale blue/green instead. Have to get the husbands opinion now and see what similar doors are available locally....See MoreCan you help pick out shutter style/color and front door color
Comments (8)absolutely no shutters. Why muddle up the look of the exterior when he already has 2 siding colors, with 2 diff siding materials, brick, white trim and a charcoal/greenish roof? here. does this look good? (give me a pic straight on and I'll photoshop something better, but it still won't look good! for the front door, He might try looking for a deep olive green with some bronze undertones Like this color on the left replacing the bright bench w/a wood verision, and getting some numbers clearly displayed. you'll have to enlarge this to see everything He could always paint that white one, add some colorful outdoor pillows. I also like all of these wood and copper accents, along w/these paint colors, address plaque, and even a slight limewash on the brick I know you said he doesn't want to paint. but a very light limewash w/Romabio would give this similar effect. (AND, if will completely wash off within 72 hours if he doesn't like it. there is no upkeep w/this, it's natural liime and will patina w/time. Just a suggestion) could also go darker w/the Urbane Bronze, Iron Ore, or one of those dark bronze/black tones Or, maybe you want to go w/a brick color front door. maybe a door w/some lites in them rather than solid this door style might be nice. you could even have smaller glass panels....See Morecrunkin4justinrt
